ok guys so I reset my settings using the flash wiper and I've gone back to (I think) the way I used to do it before with XDP where I don't set the IP Address and just specify the DNS as the Sylverant server. I tried PSO v2 in my spare room and I don't get the error I was getting before but about 1 in 3 times I get an error saying the following DURING the screen that shows before you connect:

Connection Attempt Failed
Failed to retrieve IP Address from DHCP

any ideas why I'm getting this one now? I don't USE DHCP!!

I am in a different room using a different cable and the XDP browser connects to Google everytime so it can't be the BBA can it? If I move things back to the main room and still have connection issues even on XDP I'll know its the cable not the BBA

Yes you do. If you don't set an IP address, you have to receive one from your router with DHCP.

Both symptoms indicate the same problem: your router is either defective or configured incorrectly. With static IP, it does something to make the DC think it got disconnected as soon as you log on, and with DHCP, it doesn't issue you an address fast enough to the DC's liking, causing the connection to fail.

I have my router setup with a static IP and DMZ for my two BBA Dreamcast units. Works 100% with Q3, PSO & XDP.

For PSO, you shouldn't have any reason to need to put it in the DMZ. Same goes for XDP. It shouldn't hurt anything, but it is an unnecessary step.

I can't speak of Q3, as I do not have it and have never played it. I would suspect it is unnecessary, however.

DMZ is also unessesary for Quake3.

The only (current) online game that I -know- needs ports forwarded to work correct is Starlancer. I never knew the exact ports so I just always put it in DMZ when I want to play Starlancer.

I also always use DHCP.. However, I make sure to put a permanent reservation for the DC's mac address to a specific IP in the router. I would imainge this would speed up the address assignment (if only slightly). Maybe that would help your situation if your router supports it.

I can now confirm the quests are working perfectly. Played a couple yesterday with three other people and had no problems.

thanks for the tips guys, though I would need to know how to actually do that lol

Either way for the time being it seems alright, I get the DHCP error every now and again, I use the patcher and get a connection first time most tries so I'm happy for the moment
