Starlancer gamespy down ?

Post by WildCard »

Heard rumor that the new owners of Gamespy have been shutting down services for alot of the older games and that Starlancer may have been one of the victims ?

Very sad if true, especially in light of the fact that i never got a chance to get it working with my netopia connection. :(

Well, I have heard that it goes down from time to time... but I can't confirm that.

What I can confirm is that as of writing this, Starlancer's gamespy server -IS- online. I was just able to connect with no problems (well, no problems after the netopia decided to connect the call that is).

It appears that gamespy might have shut them down. While it applies to ps2 games, the new company that now own gamespy is getting rid of a lot of the older games that aren't as popular. There is a way to create your own server though.

Nvm I had something configured wrong. This game is still working fine for me online. If you are having any trouble connecting make sure you have everything set up correctly.

Has anyone really asked Gamespy for the server software they use to run/previously run various online games for the Dreamcast?
http://www.dcserv.org - NOT up to date.
Will be online for educational purposes, for now.

Ask them now or start a... fundraiser? I don't think they would even answer but it's worth a try now.

Might as well try the worse they could do is say no. Also ask for 4x4 evo software since gamespy host them. Didn't gamespy host unreal tournament? We should see how much server software we could get. Might bring a few more games back.

Gamespy doesn't host 4x4 evo, the game just optionally allowed you to log into your gamespy acc if you wanted to. Terminal reality, the developer of the game hosted its servers. Furthermore we already have the software for it and host the game currently. See here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... 614#p52614 If you want to connect just set your DNS to 100.40.25.69 for dreamcast. Unreal tournament, however, is another story that is one people have been trying to get online for long time without success.

Ah, fair enough. I'll let Impulse know to fix that. The chatserver on there was hosted by TRI however it went offline about a month or two ago. I think the official server may be down for good now. Luckily we have our own server though.
