Hello!
I just got a copy of Quake 3 arena to play, but I'm finding that every time I enter in my dialing in info (Netopia, so number is 40, yada yada yada) it gives me Server Failed and doesn't even dial in. I made sure the dns was DC-Talk's dns, but it isn't changing anything. Is there another step to this that I missed?
Thanks!

Which phone line simulator are you using? Also, use your web browser to test first, it's easier to determine what the problem is that way.

I'm using a Teltone Ts-3, last time I tried it, Planetweb 2.6, XDP, PSO, and Planet Ring all connected 100% awesomely, but I'll check again to see if that's the case and update this post!
Edit: Yup! Everything connects super fast, in terms of web browsing and those other games. One thing I have noticed is that 4x4 evolution has never been able to find the master server, even when I changed the netopia dns to the DC-Talk dns, but it connects to the actual internet fine.

Alright so it is just a dns problem. On DC set your primary and secondary DNS to 0.0.0.0 if you haven't already. Then on the netopia router go to System Configuration > IP Setup and set Primary Domain Name server to 100.40.25.69 and Secondary to 0.0.0.0.

Changed the dreamcast dns addresses in planetweb and used telnet to change the netopia dns, but Quake 3 is still giving me the same error. It doesn't even seem to want to dial. I'll try out 4x4 and see if anything's different there!

Also I just realized that I had a typo in the topic title. Fixed! XD

Do you have a different DNS set on quake 3 itself?

Nope. Not at all, I tried both leaving it blank and setting it to 0.0.0.0. It always says it's saving it, but it never seems to actually do it. I did burn this copy, so I wonder if it's a bad release. I got it from RDC.brourke228 wrote:Do you have a different DNS set on quake 3 itself?

Try setting primary on Q3 to 100.40.25.69. Set the secondary to 0.0.0.0. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure. If someone changed the hostname in the copy of the game you have to something other than master.quake3arena.com then it won't be properly redirected to our server.

Okay, still working on dialing into 4x4, but once I do, I'll try changing the dns on Q3. I'm downloading a vanilla rip to try that out!brourke228 wrote:Try setting primary on Q3 to 100.40.25.69. W00t! The other copy of Q3 worked!
Must've been a bad copy after all. Although I'm still unable to connect to the master server on 4x4, it tries all of them and fails.
Thank you so much for your help though! You guys are awesome! :3
