Hi,
I think GameSpy has closed the master server that was previously online for the Dreamcast version of Unreal Tournament.
If I recall correctly, there is software that can be used to emulate the master server. Maybe it was over at Onlineconsoles..?
Anyway, wouldnt it be possible to set up that software on the DC-talk dns?
That way I can continue to work on getting Unreal back, as well as other games (like wwp, but currently I only have access to BBA)

Re: Unreal Master Server
The best that was ever achieved was that the Dreamcast would see the UT server but once you select the server with the DC, it would hang due to a communication issue between the DC and the PC server. TeamXlink was the last to set the server up in which Radkin and I could see it remotely...that was always the end, even for those at Onlineconsoles who are very good at reverse engineering.

I do not ever believe it will work at this point, but I would really love to be wrong.
Where does all of this server software go anyway?

Re: Unreal Master Server
Yes I know about TeamXlinks efforts and also the thread at Dcarena.de.
I am in dialog with some of the original developers from SecretLevel and I need the master server to be online to be able to keep on working on the game server.
Also it would be great if teamxlink could see this so we could test together.
Please PM if you see this.

Re: Unreal Master Server
Some progress in the process of figuring out things.
(There is also a similar thread going on over at OC on this exact subject)
Regarding the compatibility between the DC and PC versions - they are indeed not compatible as they were not intended to. They were created by two different studios - The DC version was created at Secret Level and not at EPIC.
Some people have mentioned the ENTRY.DAT file and that the key to finding out more is to decrypt the ENTRY.DAT file on the Gd-rom.
The way data files were shipped on the UTDC is not in any useful way on the disc that we could get back. All the bytes are recorded to be the exact order randomly read from 100 files so that the disc never needs to seak during gameplay or when loading levels. They are not like loose files on a PC-build.
To get to ENTRY.DAT we would need the source code. Again, not like a PC-build.
Information is gathered from developer Josh Adams.
And so the work continues and updates will be posted.

Re: Unreal Master Server
This game together with Worms World Party is probably the games most likely to get back online in the nearest future IMO.
However I only have BBA access where I am right now, so this game is going to be first priority.
thanks

Let me know if you need help testing anything. I have both broadband and dial-up access with my Dreamcast.
