Hooking up a VGA connection to an HDTV

Post by mxlvxnn »

I know there are some issues when hooking up your dreamcast to an HDTV through RCA connections. There have been reports of lag and the picture quality is clear but it just isn't recommended. If I were to hook my dreamcast to the HDTV through VGA would there still be issues? I assume that it would be alright since its VGA, but I don't know much on the subject so please enlighten me. How many of you have this set up at home? My HDTV has a VGA input so I want to utilize it.

Other than a converter, if you have a VGA input on your TV and a good VGA cable/adapter, you should see a really nice picture with smooth graphics. I have a VGA for the DC and it looks great (unfortunately my son uses it). Radkin has two different types of the original era (one box and one cable adapter), they work and look great.

I looked up on Google for what are the best ways to hook up a Dreamcast to video. VGA came up, and they suggested to use a monitor that supports VGA.

The only problem with VGA-Box is that once you start using it, you will never want to go back to RCA ;)

Most NTSC-U games are compatible with VGA, and practically all games are patchable to VGA (if you use GDEMU or MIL-CDs).
- Check Dreamcast-Talk Downloads Index and help uploading games too!

I'd agree with if I didn't like my 2D sprite based games ;)

Does that include Plasma Sword, KoF 99 EVO, Psychic Force 2012...?

I use VGA on my Dreamcast and projector set-up, and the picture is fantastic. HD just isn't available on the older systems. If you have a VGA input it's more than good enough. I've never felt it necessary to invest in any further pricey gadgets, like this:

Unless you don't have VGA. But it's unlikely...

the guy I bought my japdc threw in one of those VGA cables. I heard they eventually break after some time but the picture quality is substantially better than regular rca cables. I can only imagine how the picture quality will be with a Hanzo. I've heard good reviews on that VGA box.

If you take care of your stuff, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
