Moar PC-DC help (Win98)

Post by DR TEAMCAST »

I've been messing with a PC-DC server in windows 98 for the latter part of two days and at first the dreamcast was telling me unable to find the host (PlanetWeb3) after after tinkering i found out i needed to forward the NAT (Any--->192.168.55.2--->NAT with default IP and 192.168.55.2--->any--->NAT with default IP) and enable DHCP server.

i can get the dreamcast to load dc-talk but if i connect to pso or google it connects to the site but then theres no data transfer on the dreamcast, in pso i can connect to the server but nothing happens after that i get stuck on the screen showing the lobby but my charachter doesnt load. The packet send rate is about 5x faster than the receive rate i can send about 10000 packets and only receive about 2500. So the DC can send data to the servers no problem its just getting the data back to the dreamcast that seems to be the issue.

I tried packet filtering all incoming packets from any IP to the dreamcast IP 192.168.55.2 and any outgoing packets from any IP to the router ip (not sure if the router ip is different in emulated windows (oh yeah using MS Virtual PC)) i forwarded all ports from 1-65535 from any ip to my dreamcast 192.168.55.2. (does this need to be done on router too?? if so what ip do i forward? The virtual lan IP 192.168.1.4 or the IP of my actuall computer 192.168.1.2, or the IP of the dreamcast 192.168.55.2?)

So what do i have to do? Do i have to make a new scope in DCHP servers of the dreamcast? Do i have to set a dns in winroute that im not setting? Add a host of one of the IP's instead of 127.0.0.1? Forward all DNS querys to a specific dns? What dns do i use for the network on winroute?

Here's any and all network info i have right now
The address of my LAN interface (in MS-VirtualPC) is 192.168.1.4
The address of my computer not in MS-VPC 192.168.1.2
Router gateway is 192.168.1.1
The address for the dial in server is 192.168.55.1
The dreamcast's address is 192.168.55.2

Dreamcast login info-
Realname: My name
username: dream
password: dreamcast
number:555
dns1: 192.168.55.1 (ip of dial in server)
dns2: same as dns1
Init:AT&F0
Dial:Tone
Dial area code:off
Blind Dial: on
Connected with PlanetWeb 3.0 and PSOv1

My guess its the DNS but which dns do i use for this? I feel like the reason why data stops transfering after a certain point is because the dreamcast DNS is the IP of the dial in server. So once it connects its not transfering data from the server but only transfering from the computer. While typing this i figured i'd try using the router gateway on the DC.

Sorry for this book of a post i just want someone who knows what they're talking about to be able to give me a precision answer without answering a bunch of other questions. I want to get on x-mas eve PSO with some peeps asap

The windows 98 does not serve to play psov1 and v2 only Quake 3 Arena. You need to use linux to play Phantasy Star Online. I have the image ready Linux only use vmware and change the settings.

Watch the video:

dns2: 8.8.8.8

Dial:Tone
Dial area code:off
Blind Dial: on
Connected with XDP

Last time I used a win98 pc-dc server it worked perfectly fine for PSO.
Are you sure you are timing when to "Allow caller access" with the dial up server?
Are you forwarding the correct ports on your router to allow a connection?

Since this post i got a usb modem off ebay and i cant get the modem to initialize and when i did it wouldnt catch the dreamcasts call. The timing is/was right because i was connected to the internet just the data was having a hard time getting to and from dc-router-internet. Not sure if i have to mount the usb directly or via serial port like the guides say to do for internal
