Can I Connect to the Internet?

Post by Kissy_Burns »

Hello fellow Dreamcast fans. I am wondering if I have what it takes to go online on the Dreamcast. I had a "LINE" modem at the back of my Dreamcast, so I guess I'll be using dial-up. One thing, I don't have dial-up anymore. What I do have is...
[*] Dreamcast Console
[*] Browser Disc
[*] Phone Line

[*] Phone Plug Thing

[*] Modem

So..is there anyway I can connect to the internet? I am primarily using it to download stuff from Sonic Adventure 1 & 2. Mainly the menu themes and saves for my VMU. Thanks for the help guys! I'll answer any question as soon as possible.

If you click on our "Online Info" link, it will give you ways to connect. With a dial-up modem, you basically have two ways to go.

1. LAN Modem method: This requires two pieces of hardware and very little PC tech knowledge but the hardware is tough to find and can cost. If you can get these items, this is the best because it allows you to play all of the remaining online games.

2. PC-DC Server method: This requires a PC with Linux and VMWare software loaded (free software) a dial-up modem that is compatible with Linux and a model A Dreamcast modem. If you have a model B, you may need to add voltage to the phone line.

Another option is pricey, which is to buy a Dreamcast BBA. Unfortunately, the only thing that is friendly to the BBA is Quake 3, PSO and XDP browser.

There are other options, like a free dial-up service - if you still have a phone line.

Good luck!

Alright, thanks the reply. I actually found this website to help me connect using my PC:

I have one of those old phone connectors like I showed you. I do have a question however. When I am plugging my phone line from my Dreamcast, should I plug it into one of the connectors I showed you, or should I plug it into a port on one of my old telephones (that works)?

You could plug it into the phone jack inside your telephone, too. Just unplug the cord that's already in there and replace it with the cord that you plugged into the DC's modem. I haven't hooked up my Dreamcast to the Internet (I'm having trouble trying to find a reliable ISP in my area (it's such a pain :x)), but I know how to do it.
