Jeez...it wasn't until now that I realized how fast DCs are going. One time, I saw a $36 Dreamcast on Amazon. I checked again the next day, and now it's gone! The next offer was for 95 bucks. Are you insane?! Nobody's gonna go for that!

Maybe they're going by "you snooze, you lose...or have to pay an unfair price for a retro game console".

Personally I think the Dreamcast has been underpriced for years now, which is a good thing for us Dreamcast enthousiasts. So that being said I think 99$ for a Dreamcast is still a very good price for such an versatile system. Here in the Netherlands loose systems go for around €50~75.

I thought it was because of the rising popularity of retro gaming webseries?

I doubt most of the collectors of retro games are hipsters.
that's not what I mean, WE are collectors; hipsters are the guys that buy the stuff to show off to their friends (which is basically what being a hipster is all about). since retro gaming is hip nowadays, therefor logic dictates that hipsters also buy "our" stuff > thus the price goes up
Oh I see. So you're saying the very presence of hipsters in the market, even if they are a minority, raises the prices of these games for the rest of us?

I'm not saying thats the sole reason, but I'm pretty sure it's one of them (one of the others obviously being greed  )

and it's not like hipsters are a dying species, their number seems to grow every year

i remember this happened with comic books back in the 90s, at one point the 1st apperance of hobgoblin went for 900 bucks, now it can be picked up for around 100. Gen 13 # 1 went for around 1300 back then and now its in everyones dollor bin, my point? Game collecting right now is a fad, there are people who collect and keep their games but there are people who buy games just to have so it sits on their shelf and the person has something "cool" to show their friends. Just wait until all these collections hit the market.

I'm not sure I see a difference between collectors and hipsters. Collectors tend to buy games just to have them sit on a shelf out of some obsessive compulsive desire to own every game, even if they have no intention of playing said games. If already scarce games are getting snapped up to sit on collectors' shelves, then that leaves fewer copies available to those of us who buy games to play them. I would say that the difference lies between enthusiasts and collectors, which are the same as "hipsters". ;)

Guess we all got used to seeing Dreamcasts underpriced that when we see one for $100, we think "WHOA...that's too high!" Or at least that's whatt happened with me.

I beg to differ, most of us indeed collect stuff, but we play almost everything we buy, a hipster would do it for the sole reason of it being "cool"
