Yeah as I said before, with the deals I've got the past year or two and I can't really feel this retro value spike everyone is talking about other than at specific retailers that carry retro where consoles have almost double but that doesn't mean I can't find an Xbox for $15 when they sell them at the retro store for $50.
Wow values on items fluctuate over years, decades. Idk why that surprises anyone. I bought banjo kazooie CIB for $5 and sold my extra cartridge of it on its own on eBay for $25. Prices are all over the place. I want THP8 for PS3 but everywhere I look its like $30 rn which is crazy but if I wait a couple weeks I'll find it for $4
Just look around and don't take the first price. Every component box for the og Xbox goes for like $40 on eBay but I got to my local game store and they had a slew of them for $10. I even told him I didn't need the red and white audio cables and he knocked it down to $8.
Prices are not sky high, don't believe the hype just look around for 2 minutes before buying the first CIB eBay offer. Don't be the person that bought BK from me for $25. Or if youre gonna be just buy your overpriced games from me.

In that case, sell me cheap PAL copies of these games for Mega CD smart boy...Unorthodocks wrote:Yeah as I said before, with the deals I've got the past year or two and I can't really feel this retro value spike everyone is talking about other than at specific retailers that carry retro where consoles have almost double but that doesn't mean I can't find an Xbox for $15 when they sell them at the retro store for $50.

Oh no you can't find 5 specific rare imports! That must mean the entire market is being ruined. Makes sense.krssn wrote: In that case, sell me cheap PAL copies of these games for Mega CD smart boy...

Re: When in the F*** Did this happen?
Their prices have gone through the roof as of lately. Those games used to go for much less not so long ago. Prices for Mega CD and NES / SNES games in particular have become pretty insane the last few years. I really don't see how you can deny that. Sure, you can still do bargains. But it's not as easy as it used to be...

Prices fluctuate like any item or good. Wait a year or 2 and prices will be back down again. You can't expect everything's value to never go up or down, that's just the way trade works.

Lol not tryna be passive aggressive just joking that we probably won't get to have that conversation in a few years haha.
Everyone keep in mind though in a used market its supply and demand. If gamers stop paying crazy prices, the prices have to go down.
BTW where's everyone seeing the apparently outrageous prices? I do most of my game shopping on craigslist and eBay and great deals. Even my local game shops have items significantly cheaper gear than online sometimes. Granted most of time the stuff is significantly more expensive. But that's my point, don't get everything in the same place, shop around. Whenever I'm in a used store I got my phone out running eBay price comparisons and if I find something on eBay I'll call the store to see their price on it if its in stock.
Idk if you guys have checked out pawn shops but they're great sometimes because the owners have no clue of their value of these old games and just have a set low price for all of them. Madden 98 will be the same price as Majoras Mask if they have it cuz it they obviously do no research into value and think of them as old obsolete junk. That's where I found my 3 CIB N64 for $5 a piece. And to prove my point on pawn pricing, I got starfox 64 just the cartridge for $5. Yeah the CIB games where the same price as the loose carts lol.

Re: When in the F*** Did this happen?
For the most part I've kept my games, but I really notice when a big Youtuber mentions a completely unheard of game (AVGN comes to mind), the demand for them skyrockets, which of course drives up prices.Impulse wrote:Good topic smith. I second that the rise of youtubers and retro gaming channels that get huuuugee view counts really is putting retro stuff out there more. Which i'm not saying is a bad thing but youtube personalities and the expansion of the www in general are adding to retro prices surges. I love watching a lot of the shows, heck I even learn about "new" old games watching their shows. Game Sack and Classic Game Room come to mind as large channels. Also our own Adam K and pcwzrd13 does a great job covering retro stuff.
I have observed some interesting things... Like when Pierce Bronson was on the Jimmy Fallon late show and they played Goldeneye together. Haha I checked ebay and copies were "flying off the shelves". I'm sure the same happens when a big youtuber or someone in social media reviews a retro game. Anyways that's probably nothing in the big picture but in general I think younger people are discovering retro stuff more and more these days.
I remember Adam Koralik saying something interesting about game collectors. Like when you were a kid you had a game console, say it was a snes. Then when n64 came out you said fuck it and sold it off cause you needed money. Now that you're older and have a decent job and some spending money you can buy it all back. I have actually witnessed this happen with a few of my friends. Not me though I kept that shit haha. So this stuff could come in cycles.
