If it's in good condition, you have the correct cabling and you are going to make use of it, then yes. I appreciate it's more difficult to get RGB in the states so this is a good choice.
I haven't really seen a difference in picture quality between a PVM and good quality RGB SCART CRT (easy to find in the UK). I prefer the latter because they are dirt cheap and very easy to replace. There is certainly a difference in picture quality compared to BVM's but I can't justify the cost/hassle of getting one.
One big advance BVM/PVM's have over consumer sets are their rugged designs; they are made to be shifted around!

To be honest, I don't think Sony makes the best TVs anymore. I really like RCA's LCD televisions, though.
