Dreamcast SD card reader / Dreamshell

Post by Hickham »

I been having a difficult time trying to burn a copy of the Dreamshell bootloader cdi. image onto a blank CD-R to utilize the Dreamcast SD card reader. I also tried burning Sonic Adventure cdi. image from the theIsoZone site to a CD-R disc but I having the same problems with that too.

I followed the Youtube tutorial by TheBackStabbedSniper which he uses Imgburn program, and I get a Power Distribution area error. Then I tried another tutorial by the Project Phoenix Media which he uses DiscJuggler and I get OPC or PMA update error.

So the only thing I plan on next in doing is to use another optical drive on a older desktop and I am going to increase the laser intensity since the other previous failed attempts were on my laptop optical drive.

Has anyone come across this before? I would like to know what I am missing here or is it just my crappy Matshita laptop optical drive that is incompatible of burning to a CD-R. I haven't burned much with this drive however I know that is works with burning iso images of Live Linux distributions on DVD-R.

What speed are you writing the disc at? I'd recommend 1x

Thanks Jay for your response, but I've already telepathical figured that i needed to purchase licensed copy of a disc burning suite. I will seriously take a look at the Discjuggler Pro though because any time I've tried to used any Nero burning software it hasn't really worked for me, just burning regular DVD movies was problematic. To clarifying, CDI2NERO and Nero Burning Rom are two separate burning program right?

I can give you the serials for Discjuggler Pro 6, I got it free too from a forum, no a YouTube video with links. CDI2NERO is different from the Nero Burning Rom in your package. CDI2NERO IS a different free download and creates an image then you burn it with Nero Burning Rom. Discjuggler does it all in one program..Thankyou for your reply, isn't this tapatalk a great idea for Dreamcasting and on the move. On YouTube and ISO.com people have there favourite burners. I've only been doing homebrew 2 months or so since I got my BBadaptor and Dreamshell. I've gone DC 24/7 and have two set up for the broadband games and the other for dial up. The Dreamshell just adds more to my custom Dreamcast. It's very powerfull hard and software..A lot of reading, research trial and error and eureka moments. Hope any of this helps

Gees brother that's sounds great, i spent money on a SD card reader and DC VGA cable at
dc-sd.com and now I can't even use the stinky thing, a copy of Dreamshell should been included.

How much do you want brother? I can like spend money by Paypal, i think it like $40.00 for two licenses of Disc Juggler Pro, but I can't pay to much because I owe on some games i purchased from online.

Email me any serial numbers that I might be able to use and thank you a whole bunch. :D

Didn't feel like starting a new thred so I thought I'd ask my Dreamshell related question here.

I managed to get my hands on a Dreamcast SD reader so I burned Dreamshell 4.0.0 RC3 (from the dc-swat.ru site) on a disc to mess around with it. While my DC reads and boots from it, the drive goes pretty nuts while loading from it.

My question is: is it normal for the DC to seek back and forth, going crazy with the Dreamshell CD or does it only do it for me? And before you ask, I already figured out the CDR brand/drive/burning program/burning settings that my DC approves so that's not the problem, I burned games with the same setup which work just fine.

Edit: Hmm, probably has to do with me burning the "DreamShell 4.0 RC 3 CDI Image", not the one with the boot loader which has the DS folder for the SD card..

It just means the DreamShell filesystem isn't sorted very well. I vaguely remember a fair amount of seeking when I was trying it some years ago.
