i asked Locomalito of http://www.locomalito.com/ if he would convert any of his games to Dreamcast and he said he said, "not by his hand", but I asked could someone else with his permission and he said, "sure "
Would anyone be able to at all? How hard would it be?
Thing is the games are all made with gamemaker. As gamemaker has not been ported to the dreamcast, I don't think its possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I imagine some of the code would have to be re-written, so maybe not a simple port.
I don't know how easy those games would be to port to the dreamcast but it could certainly be done , the only game I looked at was Maldita Castilla and it looks great i'll have to check out some of the others
He has a few arcade style games on the page that would be nice on the Dreamcast; Hydorah, They Came from Verminest, Maldita Castlla (especially) to name a few
Another side, I asked the developers of Frogatto if it could be ported to Dreamcast and they said this
"1) Not from us; 2) Frogatto is now commercial on computers but the community has the permission to port it and release it for free; 3) I don't know about the feasibility, though; 16 MB of RAM is much less than it has ever worked with, in any of the ports it's had."
The thing is that when we got Cave Story ported, they dudes coded a new engine for it completely and ported the levels and sprites to it, that was also a homebrew free port done by fans. I wish it ran like Volgarr, as it has some slight slowdown or music can pause for a half second. Other than that it is a really great port, and if the system can handle 3D games like Shenmue 2 it should be able to handle simpler 2d games, but most likely a straight from modern PC port would need to be completely rewritten.
I'd really love to see a compilation of locomalito games on the dreamcast on a pressed disc but since they are done as freeware maybe the money could be donated to a charity or something
