Shen ME!!
So, I just bid on Shenmue I and II for my DC. I just want clarification on something. Because I'm from Canada, does this mean I will have to buy a PAL DC to play Shenmue II?

Re: Shen ME!!
no but you will need a boot disc. you can download one or pay for one. i have 4 of them. i think the best one to use is codebreaker. others might prefer different methods to boot imports, such as modding their Dreamcast.
the choice is yours but the easiest way to go is a boot disc. if you don't want to download one you can find them on ebay.

Re: Shen ME!!
Can a boot disk be used to play Japanese Games as well? Also, can the same boot disk be used to boot all PAL games?

Re: Shen ME!!
yes. i can use my US NTSC/U Dreamcast to boot all PAL and Japanese games. as far as i know all games will work. atm the only imports i own are PSO v1 and v2. both are official GD roms and both boot and play using Codebreaker with out any trouble.GPWASR10 wrote:Can a boot disk be used to play Japanese Games as well? Re: Shen ME!!
For Shenmue I you won't need the boot disc if its a North American Release. Shenmue II on the other hand will need a boot disc as Gary has been saying.

Re: Shen ME!!
here is a link to Dreamcasts-talk's utopia boot disc guide. http://dreamcast-talk.com/utopia.php
other options are Gameshark, Codebreaker, and DChakker. I'm sure there are more but i cant think of them atm. you can do a google search for more information on these.
Gameshark and Codebreaker are known more for being cheat devices. DChakker and Utopia are more of a boot disc. another thing worth mentioning is that Utopia will not work on VGA monitors. i think they might have made an updated version that included VGA support but i have not yet seen it. Utopia is also buggy. some games wont work at all with it.
your best bet would probably be to get an official copy of either Codebreaker or Gameshark. if you would rather burn one then i would go with Codebreaker. it it also used to connect to privet PSO servers such as schthack and DC-Talk's ships. i am not sure if you can burn Gameshark because it has hardware that goes with it. its pretty much just a memory card, but the disc will not work with out it.

Re: Shen ME!!
Alright. A Gameshark was part of the bid, so that's all I need? That's boss! Thanks a lot. Obviously I can't try this until I have them in my hands, so I now wait impatiently.
