For the most part no. However it's more noticeable depending from game to game. I have a 80m backup of Spawn and the the only thing that was sacrificed was the abnormally high video bitrate for the opening cutscene. In the other hand I also have a backup copy on Sonic Adventure where all of the game's soundtrack was lowered from 44.1htz to 32htz instead of merging both audio channels to mono. Some games like Bangai-O won't have a 80m version since it fits well under 650mb. All it does is it dummies out certain data redundancies, useless data, and sort order which would limit the laser head track movement which in return prolongs the lifespan of the disc drive.

I believe the audio department will take a hit, but not as bad as Skies of Arcadia Legends on the Gamecube.

SoA was one of the most pirate-proof games, because it had no content that a pirate could remove to shrink the game. Most early bootleg SoA copies either came on three discs (meaning if you accidentally went to a location not contained on your current disc, the game would crash) or used an on-the-fly compression method to decompress a compressed copy in realtime, which caused the game to stutter during cutscenes and intense loading. Supposedly a more recent crack improved the performance, but there's really no substitute for a retail copy of SoA.

I would say the most pirate proof game on dc was the legendary rand linden software BLEEMCAST. YZB wrote a compression method for SOA that is added in ASM and works on SOA NTSC/U. Echelon made their compression method for SOA PAL. NTSC/U is best for SOA since it will work with VGA cables. Anyhow you guys covered everything else.

Difference in cdr copies of dc games is that you have to compress data in order to fit. Some games are tougher than others. Some games can be tricky to fit a cdr. If you are wanting the best possible backup of a game use .gdi and a GD-ROM EMU device. Other than that either buy your games or find the best dc isos you can.

Alot of dc isos have been fixed and optimized since the days of ECHELON and KALISTO etc. Just do some research and you can find decent rips of your favorite dc games. And if you are so legit that you judge others for downloading isos for an officially unsupported 16 year old console. well...gfy. lol

Well Idk if it's okay to ask or post about it on this board but is anyone willing to share a link to a good back up?

(Also I plan to buy most if not all of the games I like. It's just I only owned like 5dc games as a kid and I'd like to check them out before I go drop $ on it. I am a collector after all.)
