Sega GT Vs Sega GT Homologation(jp)?

Post by AussieDC »

Hey guys, i have only been on this forum a day but im keen to learn as much about the DC as i can. im currently waiting for mine to arrive in the mail.

ANYWAY,
im interested in buying a racing game and something simillar to gran turismo would be great so Sega GT looks interesting. Does anyone know if there is gameplay differences in the japanese other edition? is Homologation a 'special' edition? note: i can read basic japanese so language is not an issue. and located in Australia with PAL console.

Thanks in advance!

Japanese Dreamcasts are not pal. they are NTSC/J so you would need a boot disc to play it. i do not think there will be any difference that will make it worth buying the Japanese version.

you say you want something like Gran Turismo? then your best option is going to be Gran Turismo 2. you will need to find the Bleem disc and a copy of Gran Turismo 2 for Playstation 1. using the official Bleem disc improves the games graphics a lot. if you have a VGA box its even better.

here is a few ebay auctions for Bleem. beware these are NTSC/U copies. you will want a PAL copy. http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZDr ... R40QQ_mdoZ

i will upload some pictures so that you can see the difference. i should note that in person it is even more remarkable.

click on the images to enlarge them. you can't see the difference that well when they are small. the top one is PSX and the bottom is on the Dreamcast using Bleem.

Thank you very much Gary.
the graphics look great!
I had a look but it looks like bleem cds are quite rare, especially in PAL format.
I found a copy of 'Bleem GT2' from the US so if my machine is made before 2000 and i use a boot disk i think i will be able to play it. i think?

to be honest i do not know if the bleem disc is region locked. chances are it is, but ya never know. i don't know about this "if the Dreamcast was made before 2000?" seems like is bullshit. it shouldn't matter when your console was made. and yes you can use a boot disc. what i would worry about is the compatibility between the US copy of Bleem and the Pal copy of GT2. you need someone who owns the Pal Bleem to help on this. there's a good chance mazonemayu owns it. ill PM him and see if he can help you out a bit.

smith wrote: the bleem!cast retail disks were not region locked. they worked on any region dreamcast.

also the retail disks use an .ini file that lists all of the PSX ID's for each region of the specific PSX game.

so you could use any region PSX game.
this means that the US copy of Bleem that you are looking at will work on your PAL Dreamcast with out a boot disc. and it will work with a PAL copy of GT2.

AussieDC, Welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy your stay.

If you are looking for a racing simulation like GT2, then Sega GT is a great choice. Personally I think it is a great game but the physics are a little hard getting used to. I recommended just getting the PAL version.

Look into Metropolis Street Racer (MSR). Its a great racing simulation game. But, you cannot modify your cars with aftermarket parts in MSR. Check out Test Drive Le mans too. Last but not least, Ferrari F355 Challenge Passione Rossa.
