Re: AFO Help

Post by Halcyon »

Ok looks like i got it to work.

So i understand now what Xiden means that the Dreamcast is always 192.168.0.98. While i was in the online Lobby of AFO i saw that my router thought a 3rd device was wired to it. 1)PC 2)DreamPi and 3) must be the dreamcast and it had the IP address 192.168.0.98.

So i then put the DMZ to that IP address " " " 98 and the game runs and doesnt kick me out.

So just one last tiny question. Have i opened up a DMZ for my computer as well. I am pretty rusty with this network configuration stuff, but i seems odd to me that i don't get an option of IP ranges when it comes to DMZ settings. Somewhere in the back of my mind i want to think that it could be the IP address i set (98) and anything less then it might also have the DMZ opened.

If someone could give me some reasurance that i have not opened my computer up to attacks from the internet that would make me feel better.

Again thanks for all the assistance. Hope to find someone on line one of these times :)

You should not DMZ your PC's IP address because it will expose your PC to the entire internet. Just as long as you have DMZ'd your dreamcasts IP you'll be fine :)

Most routers only allow you to DMZ one IP Address. If you need to open ports for more than one device you'll have to setup port forwarding instead.

If you just DMZ'd the xx.xx.xx.98 then your PC is safe, since two devices cant share the same IP address

Ok right on!!!! Thats what i was hoping to hear!

Again i cant thank you enough. Honestly, i bought my dreamcast in 2002 and got AFO online as the first game. I never had a chance to play it online and was always told i never would be. I really can't believe i can actually do it now. Really this has been a dream of mine for over 10 years. Thank you so much for your help! It really means a lot to me! I ordered a copy of worms world party and it will be shipped from the US to Europe here for me so i will be able to play that online soon as well!

You have the same issue as Halcyon did, you need to login to your router and enable DMZ for you Dreamcasts IP address
