Did all US DC's ship with a 56K modem as standard?
I have a DC that has a "blank" modem, another words that instead of the modem being snapped in place there is a piece that fits the same spot the modem is in and looks exactly like a the modem but has no internals nor a plug-in for a phone line. I was thinking maybe this DC was a kiosk model and it was sent that way on purpose as not to sold to the public.
Anyone else come across one like this?
Modem Question?

Re: Modem Question?
Look under your DC if on the faceplate it says "kiosk" then it is.
Well there were some asia dreamcasts that were sold with dummy cases and no modem, but I had no idea this was in the USA too....

No "kiosk" on it.Neoblast wrote:Look under your DC if on the faceplate it says "kiosk" then it is.

Took a pic comparing it to the standard modem:

Re: Modem Question?
Interesting.... not sure why someone would even do that. Maybe you got a left over reissued DC?

Re: Modem Question?
That could be it, I bet they were just sending out anything they had in the warehouse at the end of it all. I do not remember if they offered a "Non-Online" out of the box DC pack but maybe they did. I have 6 Dreamcast's right now but not the 1 I bought on launch day so my only retail memories of what was sold is limited, the others I accumulated acquiring various games and controls @ swap meets, Flea Markets, and Craigslist ads...Radkin wrote:Interesting.... not sure why someone would even do that. I've never seen anything like that on a Dreamcast before. Where'd you get the DC at?

Re: Modem Question?
Tried posting a relpy to this earlier but the window kept freezing up. I have one of these systems with the modem place holder.
That is an ex-rental system from one of the major rental chains, such as Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.
They foresaw the possibility of liability issues deriving from people having ISP account information stolen or missused and arranged to get modem-less Dreamcasts to have as rental units.

Re: Modem Question?
I concur that does make sense, not real sure where I got it but most likely I got it at a local swap meet or a Craigslist ad I responded to.
Thanks again.

Thanks again.

Let me know if you have any more problems like that.game_player_s wrote:Tried posting a relpy to this earlier but the window kept freezing up.
Oh, well that clears things up. That would have never crossed my mind.
