I wouldn’t be surprised there. OpenMenu still has issues hence why I haven’t made the switch yet. Things seem to function way better on GDMenu no matter what it is you are trying to do.

Aleron Ives is saying that GDmenu is problematic with his PSO patches and is actually suggesting either using openMenu or an SD card with no menu software and just PSO itself.

Also, the user onlycodered is not at all suggesting they are having problems with PSO and openMenu. They are merely saying they don't recall having issues with patched PSO on GDmenu before they switched to openMenu.

All due respect to Ives, but what he’s talking here definitely shouldn’t be taken as gospel. I exclusively use GDMenu and have never had PSOv2 first in the list, and I boot and load fine without any issues. On the contrary, OpenMenu on the other hand, I’ve had nothing but issues with including wireless controller intermittent lag and CDIs not being recognised. I scrapped the idea of switching my SD cards to something that isn’t totally workable. If I were the poster here, I’d be looking at OpenMenu as the culprit for the issues. Long story short, there’s a lot of info going around about needing a dedicated SD for the game when really it isn’t needed.

I was also surprised to hear that GDmenu had issues with the patched versions of PSO 1 and 2. It could also be an issue of older firmware baked into some clone models? I initially told a friend who brought this up to me that I could have sworn I played the Ives patches on a card using GDmenu.

And yes, dude... we all know about your openMenu saga :)

Call me a pest or whatever you like, but people 100% deserve to know that OpenMenu still has masses of bugs to it and all requests I gave for troubleshooting went ignored. To play the DC library as a novice setting up for the first time I’d always recommend standard GDMenu. No fuss.

This has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. OpenMenu may very well have bugs in it; wireless controllers are not an official Dreamcast accessory and are not relevant. I'm talking specifically about problems with PSO crashing or exhibiting other weird bugs, which is a known problem when you boot the game through a homebrew launcher that doesn't specifically take PSO's quirks into account.

I am only reporting common troubleshooting methods based on problems various players have had in the Sylverant Discord, and what other users have told me. If OpenMenu also has problems that are specific to PSO, I have thus far not heard of them, but if OpenMenu causes PSO to crash as well, then I won't recommend it and will stick to the previous recommendation of not using a menu at all.

I have a genuine GDEMU and have never used any menus with it. I only use the button, and PSO never experiences any of these strange problems. All I'm saying is that if you do experience strange problems, try changing the menu you use or booting the game without any menu, and see if the problems go away. You could also have SD card problems or MTU problems or ISP problems; PSO can glitch out for tons of different reasons. YMMV!
