i tested it for loading from sd and it works good, i had te rename the main boot binary to 1st_read.bin . But when i click finish without saving the game just freeze and not go to the bios.

It worked fine for me when I tested maybe it's because of the sd?
Well it should work fine if you save and turn off the console, and load the next time you turn it on.

I actually never expect that a game with an 'exit' or 'save and exit' option is going to reboot the system when being executed from an SDcard. Most programmers aren't going to think there needs to be a reboot command attached to 'exit' on a Dreamcast game. Most will assume the user just turns the console off when they are done. If you weren't running it from an SD card with a dreamshell disc in the system what would you be rebooting into anyway? The same game disc? Yeah.. what's the purpose of that?

That being said, some homebrews certainly do reboot the dramcast from some 'exit' option in the program. Mostly on emulators that might need a reboot due to their experimental nature, or to offer a way to get back to a menu of a multi-game disc they might be a part of. These are very nice to have when working with dreamshell, because it allows you to 'exit'. ..Rebooting the system back in to dreamshell without having to hit the reset button you should all have installed on your DCs by now. But for the most part, I don't see, or expect, this feature.

For example: ScummVM has a 'quit' option in it's menu. but from the SD card it just freezes when you select it. My guess is that this wasn't implemented or simply wasn't ported correctly because there is virtually no purpose to it when running from a console like DC.

I hope you do post here more oft from now on Neoblast. It is great to have so many people developing and porting games to the DC, and it is nice to have them posted on as many networks as possible.

Btw, some guys over at Dcisozone were reporting more various problems with the game on the upload page, maybe you could reply to them there?

Hum, apart from the vga issues.
If a keyboard is plugged ONLY the keyboard works ( it's a sdl config itself not the game ).

And about it freezing, well I completed it okay but I will look into that.

Wow, and you made it with the KallistiOS SDL port, was it difficult to get the port running at a good framerate? SDL always seemed kinda slowish to me, but your port is really good! Amazing. :D

sorry if this is a dim question but with emulators like this is there a save function? I have tried a few in the past with varying success, such as Doom for dc, Fenix compilation and Metal Slug etc and some of them just crash while others work ok. thanks

SDL can get a good framerate...
It doesn't squeeze the dreamcast potential, but for games in 2D like that it works pretty well.

That's the easiest option for game development in dreamcast, kos+sdl.
Not the one with the best performance but as you can see it works pretty well.
