I had a feeling I'd get that kind of response ! lol
Worldwide, the Wii has sold ~100 million units and the DS ~150 million units. Not the figures one would expect to see for a 'gimmick'. Was the Dreamcast lightgun a gimmick ? The Samba Maraccas ? The Fishing Controller ? The Wiimote was a logical successor to those ideas. Surely the introduction of both Kinect and Move shows how seriously Microsoft and Sony considered Nintendos idea.
The DS has twin screens and stylus control. In 2004 touch screens were rare but forward to today and I think you'll see just how innovative and successful that technology proved to be.
This industry is always on the look out for new ideas and companies who don't embrace that concept will ultimately not survive. Constantly moving on is part of the deal in the videogame world. I for one, and I don't wish to insult anyone here, am glad that I'm not still playing a black and white "Pong" on some shitty little tv .............
Children can be very astute and more in tune with what's important and 'cool' than any adult could hope to be. This generation they've wanted the DS and Wii. Simple as that

Don't knock kids, we were all their age at some point
