I will gladly donate some money toward this, and give a hefty reward to whoever successfully gets it online again =).

Can't wait for AFO too !

Quote directly from lead developer Josh Adams:
.... at this point, the busted HDD is probably the best bet.

Then thats what we should go with. We finally have a solid lead on this game and should jump on it while its hot, especially as the dev is willing to work with us.
Petter is busy with AFO, who would like to organize this? Maybe PCwizard?

If someone have experience with it, give me a heads up with the best fundraising site and I will arrange everything from startup to release. Wont hurt AFO progress atm.

Thing is, hard drive recovery is not guaranteed. You could spend $1,000+ on it and not even get the files recovered that you need. It's risky. That's why I think it's best to wait since we have a possibility of getting it from another source. The game as been offline for over a decade so I don't think another week or so will kill anyone.

While I agree on that I also dont think the recovery is done in say...an hour either not to mention actually funding the whole cost would take quite some time.

They two versions may also differ - Sega used SunOS and Unix for most of their deployment except for Windows 2000. Getting the binaries is one thing while getting the whole sources is another so we can modify them for modern hardware as were the case with every game released in the early 2000's - there are major differences in both software compatibility aswell as hardware. With the HDD backup I am pretty sure the sources is what we get.

I'm pretty sure HDD repair typically takes about 6 weeks, maybe more maybe less

@PC the thing is there may not be another source to come forward. Contact has already been established, so it'd be a good idea to take a risk with the chance we have because the potential outcome is a great one. Could be our only chance

I'll look into fundraising sites later today, but I'm not going to host it. I'd nominate Petter3k, Jonas, or PC to handle that

@Petter3k, assuming you get the sources, you only need it to create a server then give them back right? We would still be able to use the legit GD? Should this be another thread?

I vote kickstarter or maybe even paypal donations.

First thing we need is to get a quote on HDD repair.

If we do a kickstarter we could get not only our community but any dreamcast fans on kickstarter involved. And who knows... even grow our online community!

Kickstarter can't be used for fundraisers. You need a product to sell. Indiegogo would probably be the best site to use. They have a nonprofit option with no fees.
