Hello I was very curious about this topic, and tried for months on trying to figure this out for myself and what this stack used of the game Alien Front Online actually is. It interests me because supposedly it had broadband support and it would be very cool if I could track down a version of Alien Front Online that had the broadband support. I got this info all from the dreamcast.wiki for the game. I wonder if this stack used of the game that had broadband support is real or not. If I can get an answer that would be great. I would purchase this stack used of the game knowing if it had broadband support and try to contact Shu about it and see if he could get the source code for the online and make it playing with a broadband adapter.

Re: Alien Front Online Broadband Stack Used
So there was a site (which name I forget) that was up around the time DreamPI first took off but before Shuouma graced the scene that was apparently working to bring games back online. One of the main ones that was getting updated was Alien Front Online and the user claimed to have gotten it working with BBA and the server they were working on. A patched disc was supposdly incoming, but once Shuouma got servers running on his end, all updates ceased on the site and eventually disappeared. That was the only time I heard of anyone having a version of the game that supported the BBA or Serial modem. Anyone know what this site was or who it was? Would be cool if we had another BBA supported game.

Re: Alien Front Online Broadband Stack Used
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Yes I'm all in favor of having another game supporting BBA and a game a like to play a lot online. I do remember the name petter3k around the time the game was coming back online. So is this stack used his version? I would like to know if this guy is still around. Maybe he was able to get other dial-up only online games online with bba support? Just thinking that would be amazing if he was able to do some sort of magicNico0020 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 2:25 am So there was a site (which name I forget) that was up around the time DreamPI first took off but before Shuouma graced the scene that was apparently working to bring games back online. I tried emailing petter but it looks like the email address is no longer in use. I did try sending him a pm here but he has not been on the site since 2020. I hope he comes back one day because I would like to find out more about this stack used and maybe help in sameway. I have also read interviews about him. He seems like a cool guy

alien front online uses NexGen network stack, theoretically BBA support is possible

Re: Alien Front Online Broadband Stack Used
Well thank you for telling me that. I really appreciate it! Glad to know BBA support is possible, now I don't have any skills on coding or Dreamcast development but can you tell me what would have to be done to get this game working with the BBA?megavolt85 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 3:51 pm alien front online uses NexGen network stack, theoretically BBA support is possible

Re: Alien Front Online Broadband Stack Used
First, you need to study the KATANA SDK to understand how the connection is made via BBA and via a modem, then you need to reverse the game to find all the necessary functions, when everything is found, you can start fixing the executable file
