After a lot of frustration, I'm able to serve greater than 33.6k speeds to my dreamcast

I found a cheap ISDN simulator on ebay (got lucky on that one, most aren't cheap), a cheap Terminal adapter, and coupled them with my 3com RAS 1500.

The best I've been able to get is 46.6K down and 31.2K up with a LAN ping of 90-100 ms. I was hoping to get pings closer to 50 ms but, I guess it's just not possible with a dial-up modem.

I saved about 10 ms in latency over my purely analog setup :P In conclusion, it's not worth the effort.

I was just wondering yesterday...
what if we use Serial to ethernet / wifi conversion on a modded DC- dialup modem?

just take a look at this guy over here:

now watch this video:

I also found this one:

(en_US Google translated link) http://translate.google.com.br/translat ... 16&act=url

After seeing SD-readers for DC working, I think this could really work... I'm n ot sure about the speed but I think this could work better than the original.

You'd have to make sure that everything is using/expecting the same protocols. A serial port and an ethernet jack are physical interfaces separate from the protocols used to communicate over them.

I have seen adapters that convert serial protocols for use over ethernet, but I think you need the same adapter at both ends of the connection (serial<<>>adapter<<>>[Ethernet Link]<<>>adapter<<>>serial)

I see.. btw this is also really interesting:

It's for the serial port, but once again if we could get serial from a modded modem, this could be used right?

I doubt we'll ever see anything like the DC modem connected straight to a broadband router

but...

If someone could interface between the modem's serial input/output and a PC (or remote access server), you could probably setup a serial PPP connection and share the PC's internet connection with the DC at whatever max speed the modem would allow.

ok my last idea, it's actually a DC-PC server BUT with a modified linux thin-client as dial-in server and connected to the internet or router.. whatever...

now THIS could be a solution, huh? ;)
