^ Just trying to rope him in :D

I don't remember much about those Tomb Raiders, but as it stands I would actually rate this much higher! I didn't have much fun with the Tomb Raiders bitd. And yes the music here is definitely a winner. I wish it played through the inventory screens. It is SO atmospheric, it is a bit jarring when it stops playing.

I think there is a way that you can force a vga signal out of your dreamcast.

DCUltrapro wrote:it makes me sad to think how most people who own current consoles don't know that quality games existed before the PS2 or 3 etc,

Thats not really the case. It might be partially true, but one also must consider the age gap of how old the player was when the dreamcast came out vs ps3/360, as well as the simple fact that most gamers evolve and grow out of systems (trade in for the new stuff).

Most people who have had a dreamcast near 2000 experienced the games they wanted to experience. Consider today how many games on the ps3, 360, or even better, the Wii, that you just wouldn't want to bother spending hours of your life on? In a decade, there will be a cult Wii following with people raving about crap titles like Onechanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers saying its an amazing game in a "Wii Underrated Unknown Games" post.

Another way to consider this is to see how many Dreamcasts are for sale on ebay. Consider that number an all time average - 99% of those systems once belonged to a gamer. Maybe two gamers, possibly more. All of those people who has played the system has decided to move along and are probably the sort of gamer who enjoys what is accepted as popular at the moment, and now owns a newer system.

Also, there are many games that are probably considered "better" than the "popular" 360/ps3 games of today from before the dreamcast. All systems have their gems.

theres no reason to pick apart my comments I was just making a general comment, I wasn't pointing it at anyone. I was probably making an unfair stereotype but hey ho, its just the way I see it

I'm sure your right, there are loads of ways of interpreting it but the way I have seen it for a while is that, excluding the VERY young gamers who weren't even copus mentus in 2000, (ie 0-10 years old) a good majority is probably labouring under the assumption that good games started with the ps1/2 and that what ever came before was just crap.

I may be wrong, I may not, but thats just the way I feel about it given how popular the Playstation franchise was compared to how good it ACTUALLY is, that is to say not very by comparison, or certainly not good enough to warrant the ridiculous success of the PS2 which was an absolutely inferior console to anything available in its generation at the time. It was just vastly overhyped and the media around it whipped everyone into a frenzy of "I must own the PS2 as without it I will not be seen as cool among my peers" which is pretty sad as well, but hey ho, I'm probably just a bitter old Sega fan from the early 90's, what do I know right?

so anyway like I said thats just my opinion of the whole thing it probably isn't even right but its how I FEEL so I apologise if anyone disagrees but at the end of the day, its all just down to opinion.

====

but I digress! rambling not withstanding the other consoles do all have underrated games worth discussing but we are here to discuss Dreamcast Underrated or unknown games and I for one think that Mag Force Racing is one of the few crazy racing games that no one knew about that actually IS worth playing. My two cents

I wasn't meaning to focus our your comments, i was just commenting on the topic branching off of the quote I felt most relevant to what I had to say. ;)

And i still think there is some way to force the vga signal even on games that don't support it. I just don't recall the method, might have been a disc swap or something.

I remember reading about this once, I think this was the procedure.

Start the game with normal AV setup.
Once the game boots, plug in your VGA cable

No sweat, I guess I didn't want you to think I was in anyway pointing those comments to you or anyone here, obviously anyone on this board is here because they love the dreamcast! Ignore me when I ramble about the DC I can get a bit carried away lol.

I might give the VGA Force thing a go but I think I've possibly tried it before and its not worked, but don't quote me. When the other half goes to work this weekend I will try it on SOA, I know for a fact when you run the game with the VGA connected it specifies that it can't run in that mode. cheers

Youtube vid of how to trick the system in to running vga. Requires at minimum separated audio/speakers from the vga box.

ok so thats pretty cool. I have that exact VGA box as it goes but I don't have those red white and yellow connections for the TV switch option on the box, I have a seperate RGB Scart that I use, so basically what I would have to do is plug in the RGB Scart and turn it on, then as the swirl comes up I'd have to unplug that and plug in the VGA box, because I only have the one tv in the living room and its a 1080p LG LCD 37" screen so I can't really run two side by side, but I will give it a go. If its going to be a case of having to have 2 screens (1 monitor, 1 tv) to test this out I won't be able to do it but will see. cheers mate

underrated games continued!! Does anyone remember playing Psychic Force 2012?? I think I mentioned it earlier in the convo but no one seems to have heard of it or mentioned it which kind of adds to the fact that it probably is pretty unknown lol!!

It was one of the first 3d fighters on DC and upon retrospect the graphics now look a bit dated but, it was one of the most innovative 3d beatemups on the console. Basically you played as 1 of a dozen or so powerful "Psychic" warriors who each control a different element of power. The characters all fly and floated in the air, in an invisible square 3d arena. The idea was to have ridiculous powers and hit your enemies with insanely powerful attacks.

heres a small clip to show what its like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvfHgo-h ... re=related

I couldn't find a great clip, as I would've preffered it to have Setsuna as the player character but nevermind. A lot of the point of the game was stratergy, setting up traps and stuff, some characters purely use massive projectile attacks, others used traps that could ricochet projectiles and amplify their power etc. Setsuna was just a powerhouse of dark psychic attacks, some were pretty mega. I loved this game and got quite obsessed at one point lol. Might break it out again this weekend and try to find my save file

I wanted to dig up this old topic to shine some light on one of my favorite games for the Dreamcast: INCOMING(!).

Reasons why Incoming never got the acclaim it deserved:
1. it was a PC port so if you have to review a game that you have already reviewed why give a fuck?
2. it is hard as shit!
3. it doesn't look all that great

Reasons why I love it:
1. it is hard as shit!
2. cool music
3. Having the coolest, most overlooked concept ever. Moving on to an essay structure to further explain number 3 :geek:

Ok, so you pilot a lot of different vehicles in this game and they are all unique and useful in their own way. The way the game works is you are generally defending a base or even a world from bad guys so you being the badass super soldier you are must hop from vehicle to vehicle to complete the necessary objectives allowing you to save the world. So here is an example; a squad of bombers are coming in to attack our oil refineries! Hop in a plane and take them down before they reach the target! and then guess what, the fuckers were flanking you so you have to hop in a turret by the refinery to quickly destroy the fighters that would annihilate you at a much slower speed but while you are doing this the enemy has tanks rolling up to a vantage point over the water. You have 30 seconds to get your tank over there and blow them up! It is absolutely insane and if you love a game that pressures you and has a huge sense of urgency this game is amazing. Some times you are attacking enemy installations and the second half of the game has you playing as the aliens with completely different vehicles destroying the puny humans. And then once you beat the long and awesome campaign you get to go through and play a free play mode that has powerups and slowly advancing difficulty levels. My longest free play run was 2 hours long and it was the most exhilarating gaming experience I've had in a long time.

So in short, if an arcade style, vehicle heavy, defense/attack shooter is your thing then you have to check this game out because it deserves a lot more attention than it gets.
