this is not a problem with software implementation
one button can emulate several actions, for example, with a short press it will work like D, and with a long press it will work like A + B + X + Y + START

Long press for that function would have been nice. So many accidental resets while passing the controller

Perhaps a long hold on START would work, that way the button is out of the way and hard to accidentally hold down.

Added a list of games to the first post that could benefit from this project, some will benefit hugely, others only a little, and there may be a couple that don't need the effort. I may also have missed some, so do feel free to add suggestions and changes to this list.

Tried Shenmue 1 and 2 last night with left stick as look and ABXY buttons to move. You will definitely want an overclocked dreamcast for this. Was only a decent experience with 240MHZ enabled

I don't understand why you'd need an overclocked DC. Shenmue runs just fine as it is, it was built for the system. What did you do to add so much strain to the console?

Hex editing the controls to use the native MAPLE controls shouldn't add any lag, if you're using software to alter the controls then it's no wonder the DC got choked.

Shemnue 2 definitely had slow down on the Dreamcast. Swinging a camera around during an already CPU straining part of the game makes lots games slow down. Shenmue probably already pushed the Dreamcast very hard.

I did not edit any code for control input, that is far beyond my knowledge or time available. Also, editing the code for games can introduce bugs or have other unintended effects. Even relatively simple ones like widescreen or GDI shrinking

*I used the Brook adapter to remap control. So nothing that bogs the Dreamcast down anymore.

**Some Dreamcast games have severe slowdown issues, 20% more CPU speed helps a lot with many of them

Sorry I misunderstood your first post. I thought you meant that Shenmue was running slower than usual. A bit of slowdown was pretty standard in pre-Xbox360 consoles. So long as your changes didn't slow down the game more than usual, that's cool.

My Wingman got delayed in the post. Amazon are telling me it'll be with me tomorrow now, which is a bit frustrating.

Wait, why is System Shock 2 listed? It was actually discovered on a devkit, but it was not more than like 10% completed. I wouldn't even really list that since not much is even playable. I think somebody hacked it to go through more of the first level, but there weren't any enemies.
