the native one is rated for 0.8A

I learned this from @megavolt85 a while back. You could try a higher amperage resettable fuse or replace with the original spec of a 0.39 ohm, 1/4 watt resistor. The resettable fuse is not blowing, yes? I'm guessing going back to original design would fix this high current demand situation.

Also, if there is a third-party power supply involved, it may not be able to deliver the current requirement on the +5v side.

Unfortunately, the fuse rating is not indicated on the order page and it is not visible in the photo either.

RXEF040 400mA Holding Current, 800mA Trip Current, Max Time to Trip 3.8 sec., 72v - this one is typically found in those kits.

RXEF090 900mA Holding Current, 1800mA Trip Current, Max Time to Trip 7.2 sec., 72v.
