There was a group that was making a chess game for various platforms, one being Dreamcast. I burned and played it in which it worked good, no complaints. Version 0.2 was to go online, but they gave up on the DC version. I copied and pasted their statement about the 0.2 version (below). Also, please note a guest apperance by the one and only "Lawrence Sebald" of Sylverant fame. I have always wished for an online version of this game.

"DreamChess 0.2.0 released
Over a year has passed since the first release, and we are now happy to present DreamChess 0.2.0. DreamChess is a 3D chess game for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The new release can be downloaded from our website at http://www.dreamchess.org.
The main new feature is sound support. Matthew P. Smith was kind of enough to allow us to use some of his songs in the game. The music pack containing these songs is available for download from our website.
Graphically the game has been improved significantly. This was made possible by the decision to drop the Dreamcast port (see below). The old 3D models have been replaced by new models with a lot more detail. Other improvements include reflections, hardware lighting, new textures, and a new sketch theme by Annie Kirkpatrick.
The GUI has seen many small improvements, such as additional options that could previously only be set from the command line. A new feature is the “easy mode” (for those who felt that our engine Dreamer put up too much of a fight even on Level 1).
DreamChess is now also available for Mac OS X by courtesy of Lawrence Sebald. Unfortunately, we were forced to drop support for Dreamcast and BeOS. If you’re interested in picking up these ports, please send an email to feedback at dreamchess.org.
We hope you enjoy this new release!
About DreamChess:
DreamChess (http://www.dreamchess.org) is an open source chess game. Our primary target platforms are Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. DreamChess features 3D OpenGL graphics and provides various chess board sets, ranging from classic wooden to flat figurines.
A moderately strong chess engine is included: Dreamer. However, should this engine be too weak for you, then you can use any other XBoard-compatible chess engine, including the popular Crafty and GNU Chess.
Other features include music, sound effects, on-screen move lists using SAN notation, undo functionality, and savegames in PGN format.
The DreamChess team currently consists of only a handful of people. We could use help in many areas, such as programming, graphics, sound and testing. If you’re interested in helping out, please send an email to feedback at dreamchess.org.

Online chest would be sweet. All though I would probably get my ass kicked at that too. Lol

To note, they made version 0.1 in three platforms, Windows, Linux and Dreamcast with online support planned in the next update (I am not sure if BeOS was also supported). Version 0.2 was made for Windows and Linux only with online support. The Dreamcast port was dropped. Makes me wonder if the Linux version could help being the Dreamcast is able of running Linux with net support.

Yeah if I got the pure src of v0.1 of the DC release, I could probably add the dialup and online support. Of course you can port the linux version of 0.2, just take longer time.

Re: DreamChess 0.1 for Dreamcast
The Dreamcast build was last fully supported with version 0.1.0, which you can find the source code for here: https://github.com/dreamchess/dreamches ... 1.0.tar.gz . There are several libraries also used, which are here: https://github.com/dreamchess/dreamches ... 0.7.tar.gz -- also, since it's inevitably using a very old toolchain (since it's from 2007), you might also need to grab the toolchain building script from the releases page too.Shuouma wrote:Wonder if they can release the source for the DC built, but I guess not
I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, but I'm not sure why you're insulting those of us that worked on it. DreamChess had been around for quite a long time (0.1.0 came out in 2006!) and the core developer put out a call for new developers in 2007, which nobody ever really responded to. Heck, 0.2.0 came out in late 2007, and that's been the last full release that's been done.mistamontiel wrote:Dang cowards -.-
