Has anyone tried any of these plug-and-play IDe boards?

Looks like it just slots in the GD drive port (I think there are some that you can also put the GD drive on top off of but can't use the top par tof the shell)
They keep saying you need "root" which I assume is something to do with custom bios like dreamshell flashed to it (to boot to something without the GDROM drive)?

Can dreamshell be flashed to a standard VA1 console from the dreamshell disc without modding the BIOS chip on the main board?

Makes sense, I eventually found out it is read-only.
Looks like dual bios is the only way without a gd drvie
