DCDivx or DCVCD

Post by McGaffryson »

I just need a second opinion on this. Incase I bring my Dreamcast anywhere and I want to watch a movie with someone, which one of these two is better to watch movies on? It would be easier to lug around just a DC as oppose to a DC and a DVD player.

Well, if you have VCDs or DivX movies AND the proper Dreamcast program to run them, then just use the Dreamcast...if you can watchable. Back in the CRT era, these looked decent compared to viewing them on LCD or LED TVs.

15 years ago we watched Spider-Man (the Toby one) and had a blast with the Dreamcast.

I remember that it couldn't play full 700meg divx/xvid avi files from disc.
I always had to shrink the resolution and bitrates completely messing up the dvd-like quality.
That's why I was always disappointed in these players lol

Quality will suffer alot, but it's possible. I use DCplaya (until Dcmc is ready ) and the resolution 320*240 you can't go higher if you want no staggering in pictures/sound.

The movies will take around 400 mb :p

Yeah until this runs on hardware like it does on emulators DCMC is not ready it runs perfect on DEMUL but there is a problem on real dreamcast hardware I'm trying to debug..

When it is solved it be the best qualty ever on dreamcast being hardware opengl rendering and Xvid moves being able to fit 2 on a disk just about..

But why can't it do something like 720x480 which is the native vga resolution?

Check this site out. This guy takes movies and makes quality Dreamcast releases. Work on a burnt cd or a gdemu.

That isn't too bad of a resolution. I mean, the typical VCD is around that same res, and modern video compression techniques solve a lot of compression issues, so I think I'm going to have to look in to that. thx

Because there is no Video ram left This uses every bit of vram in opengl to get this res.
