Re: Namco almost released a Tekken for the Dreamcast!
That would have been pretty cool at the time. I could see the dreamcast doing a good job with a Tekken game of that time like Tekken Tag.
Tekken and Virtua Fighter have enough differences in their controls and pacing it probably would have angered fans of one or the other if the gameplay for a Tekken v VF only allowed the control scheme from one game. Maybe they would have needed to do a groove system like in Capcom vs SNK to try and please fans of both series...

Sounds like "cancelled" is too strong a word for the Dreamcast Tekken game. More an idea that was pitched and never went anywhere. Still, it would've been cool to have a 'Tekken' game on Dreamcast.
I agree, they'd probably need a groove-type system for a crossover game, though 'Street Fighter x Tekken' did fine without it.

VF is so different though... only two attack buttons and a block button, compared to Tekken's 4 attack buttons. It's really much more like the Dead or Alive series, which isn't a shock since the original Dead or Alive licensed the Virtua Fighter 2 engine from Sega.

At least we have Tekken 3 on Dreamcast enhanced in true 480p with Bilinear filtering and 2X AA. It really is a fun game and grate to have on the system via the retail bleem disc.

Aye, cool
Okay, I also did find it strange, that they did not ask Yu about what VF X Esports is about. But from what I've gathered, it's like VF6 and VF x Esports are somehow not related. Or maybe VF x Esports is VF6, and Yu is working on it, but is pretending that nothing has happened yet. Probably to keep the VF x Esports hype going, and buy sega and the development team some time, until they are ready to reveal something.
As for a Virtua Fighter vs Tekken cross over game, that would be tough to do. Because there are alot of factors here. Like for example, Virtua Fighter is a more advanced deeper fighting game than Tekken. And it has combat mechanics, still not seen in a tekken game or any other 3d fighting game, unless you want to count Soul Calibur 1 on the dreamcast, since that game is somewhat close, yet different in some ways to VF. Also, namco would have to super step up, and give the Tekken characters real martial arts moves, proper close range moves, real combat mechanics, proper movement, a side step evade that actually works, and the list goes on and on.
However, a Fighting Vipers vs. Tekken in a sense is a bit more possible, since both games are similar in some ways, both are juggle heavy, over exaggerated and cartoonyish. But I know there are alot of Fighting Vipers fans out there, who would scorn that idea, and would rather have a Fighting Vipers 3 game instead. I don't blame them at all.
Oy! Thanks for posting this.

Yu Suzuki hasn't worked for sega for a long time now, so unless he's retained by Sega as a consultant, he probably has no insight or input into Virtua Fighter e-sports, whatever that may be.

Grateful that Tekken 5 included arcade versions off 1 to 3 to this very day. Crossovers today just not that special anymore. Tekken on the Dreamcast would had to be equal to Soul Calibur content and loud wise.
