Wouldn’t it be awesome……
With all the new Dreamcast games coming out. Wouldn’t it be amazing if they incorporated the online aspect of the Dreamcast into the game so we could all play against each other with multiplayer.

Why would they do this, when most games are single player affairs?

We are SEGA generation.

Re: Wouldn’t it be awesome……
I've had this idea floating around in my head for about a month now, A Dreamcast version of Sega Channel.
Would anybody use it? Probably not.
Maybe to make it more useful, or at least save it from death for a few more moments, it would be able to play movies online. If you wanna push it to the absolute limits, add a live chat too.
Can the Dreamcast handle that? No, but it's fun to dream about it!

We're attempting a lot of that with DreamArena 3. Tbh the Sega Channel gaming aspect is done, already can boot up Mega Drive games from inside the browser.Londinium wrote:I've had this idea floating around in my head for about a month now, A Dreamcast version of Sega Channel.

Playing movies online is likely a no go. The Dreamcast lacks hugely in RAM and online speeds. The only hope for it is by cataloguing how the DreamEye was able to do online video calls, but even if doable it'll likely have to be its own app and not done in browser.
As for live chat, well we've got Discord working and the DreamCall pages are restored but non-functional. Live video and voice calls are possible but unlikely anytime soon.

Re: Wouldn’t it be awesome……
For me a homebrew online game would have success.
We have just find dee dee planet, something like this would bé great. Instead, for me it's still not online unfortunately...
Or a race game like a fall guys sort, we have already Pen Pen tricelon and it's quite appreciate in the community.

TBH I'm surprised that a multiplayer suite hasn't been added to kos yet as big as multiplayer is on this website.Ian Micheal wrote:Also the fact there is hardly any working homebrew that works online or good examples for dev's even an online pong would be big at this point for online users even drugwars in txt with online play

Re: Wouldn’t it be awesome……
If I recall correctly, the Dreamcast could display sofdec movie files (.sfd) in its browser. Planetweb used to have a ton of them, but it shut down a few years ago. I remember watching the trailer for Phantasy Star Online on Sega2000.net (If anyone even remembers that).Roareye wrote: Playing movies online is likely a no go. That's interesting. I've tried streaming sfd formats with no success. Perhaps there's a particular way they have to be rendered to work.VKNIGHT20 wrote:If I recall correctly, the Dreamcast could display sofdec movie files (.sfd) in its browser.
