Anyone willing to help on optimizing the recently released English localization prototype of "Shanghai: Dynasty"?
https://hiddenpalace.org/Shanghai_Dynas ... prototype)
According to the build date it should be based on the Japanese retail version of the game, which means the prototype itself should be complete. The remaining problem so far is the poor English here and there (grammar mistakes, typos, partially translated texts etc.). The hacking process would be fairly easy - I've already done some tests and managed to change some ingame text succesfully.
Barriers I'm encountering are:
A) I'm not a native English speaker - so, I think I could somewhat improve the tranlastion in places, but... it would be quite stupid to pull something off and still not to have a proper translation in the end.
B) I only know how to play "Shanghai" (game modes 1-4). I don't have the slightest clue how "Mah-Jong" (game mode 5) works...
So yeah, anyone up for the task?
Basically it would require to go through the game, to take notes of existing text lines that sound awkward, and to come up with better translations for them.

Re: [Translation] Shanghai: Dynasty
Announcement: I am finally working on this!
Quick question for translation experts: What exactly do the following texts mean? I've tried OCR, but to no avail... I'm guessing something like "You dit it!" or "Congratulations!"??

Yupp. It's actually traditional Chinese, right? That's what I found out in the meantime.

Re: [Translation] Shanghai: Dynasty
Okay, so here it is: a more polished version of the English localization. Hoping that the result might be less distracting than the previous prototype approach.
All you have to do is: grab this modified 1ST_READ.BIN and rebuild the prototype .gdi with it. That's all.
Enjoy!

Re: [Translation] Shanghai: Dynasty
Final notes:
1.) Unfortunatley this game doesn't support RGB/Scart.
2.) The prototype as well as this re-translation both still have some Japanese left in. There are some movie clips inbetween the stages in "Tournament" mode that end on Japanese text panels. These movies are more or less just mood clips, that don't seem be relevant for the gameplay at all. So, I decided to leave them as they were. If anyone else wants to translate these, too... go ahead! They are SHAN02.SFD up to SHAN10.SFD
