Sega Hard Girls + Hang On

Post by Roareye »

So after watching the show Sega Hard Girls - an official anime series which sees Sega consoles recreated as anime girls - I saw one screen where the reference actually made me think "This would actually improve the game."

The show itself is full of references to different Sega IPs, and stars Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast as three girls who have to complete Sega game related challenges to graduate Sehagaga Academy. As such they often travel to other worlds to complete these tasks, including fighting Akira in Virtua Fighter, dancing with Ulala in Space Channel 5, racing through Shibuya-cho in Jet Set Radio etc - all of which were fun but nothing that would have improved their respective game titles had they been added into the original games.

However for one still shot in Episode 12, they show the Sega Hard Girls racing bikes in Hang-On - with the girls drawn in sprites that really do match the game's original art. Here it is;

Hang-On was a superb game, but the one thing that was a bit bland was the very generic biker you controlled. I would love to play Hang-On but with well animated sprites of the Sega Hard Girls on the bikes instead. It would definitely give the game a stylistic pop that the original lacked.

What do you guys think of the concept? BTW I'm not expecting anyone to do this, it's just a fun "What if?" scenario. Personally I think the game would be way more fun with less generic racers.

Loving it, that is a cool idea. I saw that series years ago and really liked the Mega Drive girl. She was down to earth while the Dreamcast was the wild card.
