Restoring Isao.net/Dream Passport 3 Homepage?

Post by pulsewidthlove »

hi! so i noticed the homepage for dreampassport 3, http://isao.net is now owned by some strange credit card provider or something. i also noticed that the website is quite well documented from 2000 onward. in theory this site would be possible to redirect through the dreampi dns to the archived version or a recreated version? I've noticed a strong focus on site preservation and im a little surprised this one has not gotten much attention. its a pretty neat site to poke around on thru the wayback machine. i'd glaldy try to help in restoring it if i knew exactly what id need to do as ive got some experience with site building and hosting.

I've been working on this one. Current domain is http://kamui.cool but it's changing soon! stay tuned. Content is scraped from the wayback machine. My site should run significantly faster than the wayback machine for your convenience, but there will be gaps.

I'm still working on many of the isao.net sub pages.... so much content there, plus an entire social media network (myroom). It's an overwhelming amount of content. Technically dreamflyer has some DLC with montly contests. I would say I'm only 50 percent done with restoration on the site as a whole. Temporarily, I'm burnt out and am seeking to kick off another ambitious goal.

Neat stuff there, give it a try!

About the card stuff, that's nothing new... ISAO offered VISA and NICOS promotions in Japanese console packages. ISAO continues to own the dricas.com domain name too, even though it doesn't display anything. I like to daydream that isao.net put Sonic on a credit card so people would be encouraged to go into debt faster.

wow!!! thats so awesome. take whatever time u need working on that of course but im very excited to see it hopefully complete at some point, or at least as complete as whats feasible. my room definitely seems tough to integrate tho. amazing work so far :) i assume most of what needs to be integrated is the actual functionality rather than the page styling or assets?

I'm using hostinger. It costs some money, but isn't unreasonable.

Everything I'm doing is html by hand. Nothing sophisticated, but it's tedious to implement.

For myroom, it's just going to be a scrape of the web archive data. I can do some batch-edits within Notepad++ to industrialize the conversion process a bit, but everything needs to be looked over in some manner.

For the rest of isao.net, I feel it goes hand-in-hand with sega.co.jp, dricas.com, and dricas.ne.jp . So many pages link between these sites... and I have barely one leg of the tripod.

oh gotcha, and yeah isao is quite a tangled web of dead or altered links at this point. still cool to have the primary isao pages being revived in some way regardless.

and ye my website is also all manual html/css at the moment and its definitely tedious to update stuff lol. whenever i rewrite it im gonna go for purely html. minor chance of some js ? but i suck at js so we'll see, plus i have no clue what js the dreamcast actually properly supports and what it doesnt lol

Here's the general guidelines that work with most DC browsers. HTML 3.2 and Javascript 1.1 Of course all browsers are made different. Dream Passport Premiere might support JavaScript up to JS2.0 but it's limited to that one disc. CGI used to do some heavy lifting on the server's side, and scripts were passed around as shareware, but that has gone out of style.
