Samba de Amigo maracas won't work

I have a problem with the Samba de Amigo maracas. No matter what I try, the Dreamcast just doesn't detect them. The buttons work in the menus, but the motion detection never works in-game. I've looked in the manual and on Google for a solution, but I haven't found anything.

I have my Dreamcast hooked up to an LCD TV by VGA, in case that makes any difference.

you have the sensor bar for the maracas? maybe its damaged?

Maybe they are region protected? 3rd party acessories works with every region, but official ones are protected (at least lightguns are). Maybe if you try with another region Samba De Amigo?

But that's strange, if it was protection, Maracas shouldn't work in-game at all. Strange.

you're wrong there tux; all dreamcast perhipals are regionfree, apart from the original dc gun which doesn't work in the US alone (long live paranoia & terrorism )

I examined the sensor bar and the maracas and I couldn't see any physical damage, but I guess there is the possibility of something not working on the inside. It can't be a region problem because it is a PAL set and I have a PAL DC.

Maybe its unrelated but Light guns apparently only work on the old CRT tvs... I haven't used the maracas but maybe its something similar? although it seems like there is no link to the tv screen itself.
