News jailbraking smart phones made legal by FCC

Post by Gary_b »

this is news for anyone who likes to mod hardware. as long as the hardware is modified to enhance the functionality of a device. what mod doesn't though?. imo this has the potential to be cited as precedence for the courts to rule in the favor of modding other items such as video game consoles.

this part at the end is also worth noting
• Finally, people are now free to circumvent protection measures on video games — but, strangely, only to investigate and correct security flaws in those games. (Another oddity: Other computer software is not part of this ruling, just video games.)

Now, only if there was a way to mod my damn PSP 3000...

I only bought it for $100 when it was only 1 month old, but I feel that I should have bought an older one that hadn't had the firmware updated to 6.20, as the new PSP's are unmodable after that update...

I swear, sometimes I have the worst luck...

Can't you downgrade or use Pandora battery? Or just wait for new way to mod.

Well, pandora batteries won't work on the 3000's, as the service mode that it boots into with the battery to hack the firmware is circumvented with this revision.

I reckon it should be possible in the future, but the PSP GO is getting all the limelight now. If they can hack that, then mine can be modded. I really just wanted this PSP for a music player and retro game emulator, but my patience is wearing thin!

Amazing!

I am now more legal then I was before they made that ruling!

We are now 1 step closer to owning the things we buy and not simply paying for a licence to use them!
