Been looking around and people have said that if your dreamcast was made after OCT 2000 it cannot play burnt games. Others have said underneath the dreamcast, there is a circle and with in that circle, if it has a 1 it can play burnt games and if it has a 2 it cannot.
So how can I check to see if it can play burnt games?
Are all dreamcasts able to play burned games?

burn a game and test it. i have heard a lot about this subject. i personally have not come across a Dreamcast that wouldn't play burned software. if those Dreamcast do exist they are rare. i have owned 6 or more Dreamcasts and all of them would read burned software.

thanks for fast reply. I would test it, but I do not have one yet. Just trying to find out if it can play burnt games before I buy it.

looking for the circle with a 1 in it is a good way to know for sure. im pretty sure all of my DCs are 1's and all of then play burned software.

Taken from dumpcast:
And for the record, I've played on 5 Dreamcasts on my life (2 mine; 1 was a Tectoy model), all of them booted CD-R.
Code: Select all
Some rare, late-model US Dreamcasts and some special edition Japanese Dreamcasts are crippled and have the code for booting MIL-CDs removed from their BIOS, meaning that there is no way to play backups or unofficial software on the system without some sort of hardware modification (or an as-of-yet undiscovered additional backdoor). No PAL Dreamcasts are crippled in this manner. It commonly believed that changing the track type of the first session of a MIL-CD (from the typical audio/data to data/data) will allow it to be played on these crippled Dreamcasts, but this is a myth--the code for booting MIL-CDs is completely not present in the hardware.
