A member by the name of pelikan13 is creating a beautiful new sonic game that will recapture the spirit of the old sonic platofrmers we all know and love.

http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=19981

In regards to the gameplay, pelikan13 told the other members in his project’s thread that Mercury, the creator of the Sonic Physics Guide, has assisted him in getting the classic gameplay down pat. This project has a bright future!

Looks like it might be PC, but man I wish the DC could do those graphics.

The DC can do great graphics, close to the look of those, just play Project Justice and look at the graphics. It rox on a CRT using a composite video connection.

I think if you write a very efficient engine you could possibly get it to work. I think the polygon count is too high though.

idk, this is 2d, so its hard to say. i bet it could come close enough so that you wouldn't mind the downgrade. if a downgrade is necessary?

Those trees, Sonic and other things look like they have a specular map on them, which the DC obviously can't do.

Well, there is a guy here in Brazil, from DreamcastBR, who wants to "port" Sonic 4. I've talked to him and he asks for people that can program on C and Allegro.

He wants to use Open Sonic Engine, and use some Tiles and Sprites from the original, probably from Wii, in order to recreate the game for DC.

Wow, if he can use some of the models from the iPhone version of the game, I think it could work great. iPhone has Power VR chip in it just like Dreamcast does, thats why the graphics are so similar, and thats why the people that made Irides: Master of blocks ported their game from iPhone to Dreamcast. I wish more people would port iPhone games, it could be relativly easier than making a full game from scratch.

Tell Igor the folks over at Dreamcast-Talk support his project. I played Open Sonic and it is a great engine glad it was ported from PC.
