Just got VISIO HDTV, not seeing Dreamcast via coaxial cable

Post by Anthony817 »

Anybody else have this common LCD HDTV? I have tried everything and I can't figure out how to get it in regular TV mode. I see a selection for DTV/Cable, and select that and turn the Dreamcast on, but I get no video signal to the set.

I am SURE at least somebody else here has one of these tv's, so could somebody please help me out here. I have already looked through the book and found nothing about regular TV mode.

this is interesting. i wonder if it has something to do with the analog signal from the Dreamcast. the TV might need a digital signal through its coaxial connection. if its new enough most people would need DTV today. you might have to plug the Dreamcast in through a composite input? usually those are what is used for video game mode. i'm only guessing though so i wouldn't give up just yet if i was you.

The problem is that I have no composite cables or any AV cables. I got this DC with only a coaxial cable.

We just got this today so it is brand new. The funny thing is, it works fine on the Sony Bravia 40 inch with it plugged into the coaxial jack.

Shit, I knew I should have gotten a VGA box...

my guess is that the Sony is a little bit older and or Sony put more thought into backward compatibility. if its a few years maybe as little as one year old it would be more likely to be built to accept analog and digital tv. at this point in time there really isn't to many reasons left to make a tv accept the old analog signals.

Whats weird is that I just bought a 24 inch Vaier (unknown brand but good reviews). it was 209 dollars and has NTSC/ATSC tuners. I looked through a lot of tv's and very few of them have ATSC only because some cable companies still use NTSC for basic cable. Besides doesn't rf get the worst quality of the analog video formats?

If it has a VGA port, get a VGA adapter! I use my 37" sceptre (offbrand chinese)1080p tv with my dc VGA adapter from racketboy and it works amazing.
