So is Shenmue the Only Game with Good Graphics?

Post by daniel116 »

I've had a dc for a few months now and I was wondering if there are other games for it, other than shenmue, that have really good graphics?

Well theres Jet grind radio , Dead or alive 2, D 2, world baseball 2k2 ,Virtua tennis 2, Loony tunes space race,Zombie revenge, Evil twin : Cyprien's chronicle, Skies or arcadia, Sakura taisen 3 and 4, Wacky races,Cosmic smash.

Then again depends what do you mean by "really good graphics" , some of these games have high polygon counts , smooth framerate but so-so artistic styles then others have ps1-ish polygon counts but makes up for it by its art, atmosphere ,intense lighting, frame buffer effects and so on.All depends what you like for visuals.

I mean single player games (not fighting games and sports) that have a relatively high polygon count and good artistic design
Skies of Arcadia, for example, is a beautiful games but I can't say it has really good graphics.
Another example is Soul Calibur, which has amazing graphics but it's not a game that you can go and explore places.
When I was playing Shenmue I was shocked by how the game looked and that the DC was capable of running such graphics, I wanted to explore everything because of how beautiful everything was.
So I'm looking for another dc game that will give me that feeling

Hmm then you might have a hard time.It seems your looking for high polygon count with really good artistic talent behind it.Those type of games are rather non-existent on the dc.I mean some games like that were set to release on the d.c. back in 2001 but most if not all were cancelled.Iam at a loss of what to recommend to you.To be honest most developers on d.c. seem to sacrifice polygon count for better lighting, more textures, some frame buffer effects and this is pretty much the majority of d.c. games.

You could always try D2 as you explore snowy canada but its along frustrating game.Theres always resident evil code veronica, it has so-so polygon count but great lighting.Theres gundam vs zeon ,but thats more of an arena game.I think I know what you want,I got like that after shenmue but honestly there just isnt much more in terms of graphics.

On a little side note, I think skies of arcadia is the only d.c. game to do bloom(it was used for 2 cutscenes)

Have you tried Headhunter? It's a game with a relatively high polygon count (Not as high as Shenmue, but still awesomesaucely high)
You can "explore" a city with your motorcycle. Even though there's not really that many places worth exploring.

I just remembered.Sword of the beserk has pretty snazzy graphics for a 1999 game and its very story driven.IMO it probably has the best voice acting in a dreamcast game.Though you cant truly explore ,its a very strong single player game with very interesting cut-scenes.

MDK 2 and Soul Reaver are 2 more games you may like? i don't think either of these 2 suggestion are gonna be 100% to your liking but they are nice looking games and you get to explore a bit. one thing i noticed in soul reaver is that the bosses seem to look like shit. so the graphics are more or less just an updated version of the playstation's. the game is pretty vast though. MDK 2 on the other hand looked pretty good if i remember correctly. both games looked damn good for their time. you must keep in mind that most Dreamcast games are over 10 years old now and its hard not to look somewhat dated compared to HD graphics.
