New PSO Player

Post by pcwzrd13 »

Hi All,

I've been trying to get my DC online for quite a while using the PC-DC server and free ISPs but with no luck. I finally decided to just sign up for a cheap ISP (VTISP.com) so I'm finally able to get my DC online.

Anyway, I wanted to know how to get started playing PSO (v.2). I was able to connect but I have no idea what to do. I've never played before. I got as far as the lobby (room with the desk and computers in the middle) but didn't know where to go from there. Any help you could give me would be great.

Well, for the 1st few levels i do recomend playing offline, getting familiar with the enemies, areas, shops, maybe even quests.
In online, enemies appear in mobs even in the early areas and they are harder to kill, so if you are lvl 6 or so then you will hold on while playing online, after that you won't notice such a drastic change in difficulty.

Obviously, playing online will enable you to play with more ppl and they may help you, they won't make miracles but an average player will protect and support you.

In the lobby, get close to the counter with the ladies, select organize team and then either join or create your game, you can only join games that are avaiable for you to enter, some games may have quests going on (wich cannot be interrupted), they may be passworded,.....
If you create a game, select the game name, pass (leave blank for no pass), game difficulty and game mode (normal is probably what you want, cmode is a series of quest in wich time matters, battle is when you want to fight another player).

Once created you will arrive at the guild counter and if you look back you will see a warp to the lobby you were before, from there it's normal gameplay as usual, you have exactly the same things as in offline, exept this time ppl may join and fight at your side.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do as you suggest and level up a bit first.

So when you play online, you are essentially playing your offline game except with help from other players? Do the other players benefit from helping you, like gaining xp?

I remeber the greatest pso experience I had was on the official sega dreamcast servers. 4 Players including me decided to start a fresh character (lvl1) and we played from forest to falz in one go.

It was crucial to exchanges items such as monomates, meseta and weapons/armor to reach ruins level. It was very hard but we had a lot of fun. Eventually we beat falz after many failed attemps.

I remeber I used to be a fo for healing. We had one robot for the traps, and 2 other characters I do not remeber that well. Deffinatly a better experience then to play with high level characters

The exp gets distributed, but i can say the player that kills the enemy does get the full exp, but as long you hit any enemy, then the exp will be gained when the enemy dies.

And yes, online game is the same as offline but with the help of players, sometimes to progress in certain areas online, you need more ppl in your team (button switches for example)
If you play offline 1st you will learn how to equip items, how to use healing items, how to customize buttons,..... then when you go online you're ready to kill.

In any case, if you find me online on pso pc i can teach you a few basics, maybe even help you clear forest and the boss.

Sounds good. Is there a way to tell if someone is online in PSO or are you talking about online in the forums?

Yes there is a way
Sylverant website, if you go there you will find an account link, create one, then simply add in the friend list my GuildCard# (10035).
By doing so you will know when i'm online, you can do this for anyone.
Also if you're in the game and if i join online, a green message will apear to you telling that a certain friend has come online, a red message will tell you that someone left.

Another way is to simply arrange a time and a day and i will try to appear online

How many people actually play this game still, im deciding whether to buy it? And if I'm not into RPG's, will I still like this game or no? Do you have to pay online to play, because I heard you did in the past.

How many ppl play? i don't really know because not everyone plays at the same server, not everyone plays at the same time and not everyone can play online.

Try it, download the game at the connect guide.
It's free to play online

Ok, I signed up for the site but I don't see where to add your GC number.

Also, I am using a shared serial/key that I found online, is there a disadvantage to this? I wanted to buy a PAL copy of the game but it's hard to find.
