First of all, if you just have a simple website host (i.e, if you do not have a real private server or a virtual private server), you can't. You need an IP address devoted entirely to your server, and you need to have shell access to your server machine (and be able to run arbitrary programs there). Also, your server needs to run whatever Operating System the server software you wish to run on it requires (obviously).

I have no idea where one would find server software for anything but PSO (and I only know that one because I'm the author of the PSO server).

That said, I'd prefer if people didn't set up a bunch of small PSO servers that only end up serving to fragment what's left of the community further...

I didn't make PSO, but I did make the Sylverant PSO server, which is what DC-talk uses as its PSO server.

With your permission, I would like to host my own sylverant server. and I have alot of rules for my own servers so it will not be a problem. Like I have said earlier I'm experimenting on hosting my own websites, and game servers, and I thought the dreamcast would be the prime candidate for this.

As I've said before, i'd much prefer if people did not host their own Sylverant-based servers. I won't stop you from doing so, but I'd prefer if you didn't. All that hosting more and more servers does is to fragment the already small PSO community further, which is contrary to my goal in starting the Sylverant project.

There are very few Dreamcast PSO players left, and splintering off a group from what little there is will only serve to bring the community to its end quicker.

Also, running a PSO server isn't exactly all that easy, and in all honesty, the documentation for Sylverant isn't going to help much. Many parts of it are simply not documented at all, or if they are documented the documentation tends to be outdated or plain wrong. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to documentation, as its not at all interesting to write. Look at the troubles lately that the DC-Talk PSO ship has been having, and the ship is only one part of many in the whole stack...
