Good RPG's?

Post by daniel116 »

whats up dreamers
I'm looking for good RPG games, I finished grandia 2, I thought it was pretty good, just a little on the easy side.
Tried skies of arcadia and didn't like it because of the many random battles that didn't let me enjoy the game's world.

Record of Lodoss War

I can fully recommend that game, it is amazing.

I too am looking for another RPG to play, I have Grandia 2 but haven't played much of it yet. Is it worth playing? IGN said the story wasn't very good at all.

Also, another RPG that is good is Draconus Cult of The Wyrm, its got its problems and such, but it is good.

I'm more of a turn based kinda guy, I started playing Time Stalkers now, really bad graphics but it's pretty fun so far.
About Grandia 2: It's a really great RPG with a so-so story, interesting characters, an amazing battle system and some of the best graphics I've seen on the DC, I loved playing it and I'm going to get Grandia 3 for the PS2 in the future

I love Time Stalkers, but its not for everyone, coz its more of a rogue style turn based dungeon crawler.
meaning: random dungeon generation & your levels always fall back to 1 when you exit a dungeon (gained abilities stay), its an awesome game, but not one you'll be playing for its storyline or epicness. its power lies in its replayability & its heavily focussed on collecting stuff. I've been playing it on & off since it came out (I'm guessing +100 hours atm) and I still haven't found everything. also get yourself a stack of batteries, coz you NEED to play the vmu minigames in order to find certain objects as they're not in the actual game. it you like this style, also try Evolution 1 & 2

I'd make an effort to get over your dislike of random battles as Skies Of Arcadia is well worth playing. I'd say one of the best rpgs ever made.

I think I must be one of the few people that actually liked the story in Grandia2. I thought the themes were quite interesting and the characterisation excellent.

Evolution 2 is a real fun game with brilliant characters and one of my biggest Dreamcast regrets is selling it for £5 a few years ago when I was a bit skint

I attempted to play Black Matrix but didn't get very far.

RPG games is one of Dreamcast's weakness. That breaks my heart if you compare with PS2 list where is the paradise of rpg. Grandia 2 is my favorite RPG tho. Skies of Arcadia is amazing too. Lodoss wars is a great game (favorite anime series too :p) but i haven't had the chance to play it much. I wish that Dreamcast had longer life so that more rpgs would be developed for our favorite console...

Good RPG's?

There were some great Japanese RPGs that didn't make it to the West of course. But actually there wasn't any great amount planned for a western release on Dreamcast, even at the time of it's demise. Like you say, there are some great titles on Ps2 which sorta makes up for it.

My all time favorite RPG was Final Fantasy VIII. Lodoss War was my favorite on the Dreamcast but it isn't exactly a J-RPG in the style you are looking for. I'd say Grandia 2 has the best battle system by far and Skies of Arcadia has the best graphics, production values, and story on the DC. Btw, I wouldn't say Grandia 2 had a bland story but it currently has a bland story. What I mean by that is, a lot of games have copied the story ideas behind Grandia 2 in one way or another but when the game came out its story would have been quite fresh. IGN is just a rag ;)
