region unlocking for a blu-ray dvd player

Hey guys, so i got an lg bd550 and am very happy with it! However i have a number of us dvds that i wud rather not part with! I've been googling away but can only find vague answers and some people say its not yet possible to crack the region code on my player. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Don't worry its not actually illegal! I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. I've tried changing the country code in the lock settings from gb to us etc but im pretty sure this option does not control the region protection. Thanks in advance
