Hydro Thunder "All Stars" version VGA compatible?
Does anyone have a copy of the "All Stars" version of Hydro Thunder to test in VGA? My copy simply refuses to work in VGA no matter what trick I use (boot disc, cord swap trick, etc...). I'm thinking the only explanation is that the All Stars version is different. I would appreciate it if someone could confirm this for me.

Re: Hydro Thunder "All Stars" version VGA compatible?
I actually have a copy of Hydro Thunder that has always worked on VGA without any boot disks or tricks. I found it weird when I kept seeing posts about it being impossible to get working but mine does which leads me to believe it might be an all star version. Do you know if it would mention being an All Stars game on the disk? Being a shit collector I don't keep cases so I can't check any other way

Well my theory is just the opposite. That the All Stars version DOESN'T work in VGA. After looking it up I actually figured out that there are actually three different versions. The regular version which is a blue disc, the All Stars version which is a red disc, and there is also another version which says "Hot New" on the front of the manual which has a red disc as well. I don't think there's any way of telling the difference between the "Hot New" version and the "All Stars" version without having the case but I think that you probably have the "Hot New" version. Maybe that version is fully compatible with VGA? So the plot thickens...

The red Hot New is the one I have assuming all stars doesn't look identical
. It looks great in VGA!
Why make that trade btw? And I thought blue didn't work in VGA?

No! Please read notes. The blue disc (1st release) is VGA friendly! The Hot New and All Stars version are identcle (both red disc). My question was for pcwzrd. His All Stars version (i am to assume its a red disc) is not VGA compatible for some reason...
Note to BrianC: it appears that all midway titles under Sega All Stars program Do Not have an All Stars emblem on the disc. Since all these titles got a disc revision due to bugs and faulty media, it leads me to believe that they chose not do a 3rd disc revision and just pack 2nd revision discs into All Stars packaging. Every other game does indeed have an "AS" emblem but midway titles.

It does look identical. Both have a red disc.BrianC wrote:The red Hot New is the one I have assuming all stars doesn't look identical.
No thanks. I'd actually like to keep my All Stars version regardless of the VGA incompatibility. I was thinking I may just find a cheap disc-only copy of the original version. Thanks for the offer though.CD AGES wrote:Hey would you be willing to trade for a blue disc CIB VGA compatible version of Hydro?

Re: Hydro Thunder "All Stars" version VGA compatible?
Well my copy of Sega All Stars Hydro Thunder arrived! After a night out on the town and a few drnks in me (and 3am dinner lol!) Its 4am, so before hitting dreamland for a few, decided to finally solve this strange mystery once n 4 all. The results are in! they are unanimous. Red disc (hot new/all stars) version of HT does in fact work with VGA
pcwzrd13: still don't your problem with this game! Either u are downright doin the VGA trick incorrectly or it can actually be a result of your monitor.
