Production complications: Sturmwind is about to be delayed

In spite of best planing, the release of Sturmwind has to be postponed: Our long-term CD-ROM manufacturer surprisingly had to declare bankruptcy after 19 years in business. From 40 employees only a few remained. Therefore this resulted in the situation that the scheduled delivery date for Sturmwind could not be met in the end.

The only possibility has been to relocate the production – to avoid further delays of the bankrupt facility. Nevertheless items like the spaceship models have been completely manufactured already. Our new partner is one of the largest videogame CD / DVD press plants in Europe with over 50 years of experience in medium production. In the meanwhile we already placed our production order for Sturmwind.

The release date is set to TBA (“to be announced”) consequently.

Details are currently clarified between redspotgames, Duranik and the new facility. Also we are arranging material for another announcement with more exact information within December, which will be after Christmas however. All orders in the redspotgames online shop will remain valid.

It is a tough and complicated thing to create a complete retail package like this. I know a lot of people are angry about this, especially with the other delays, but I'm pretty confident things will turn out alright and stuff will be shipped in the near future.

RSG is the intermediary in all this. Duranik made the software, and its decision to work on the game over the summer, and then during the fall after getting feedback on the weapons system was its call. No doubt frustrating to RSG who had already been marketing it for Q2 2011, and then fall 2011. In the meantime, RSG has to take orders to gauge demand, put up a chunk of money upfront for the pressing, and send the game off to a pressing plant to be pressed and wait for it to come back before shipping. Apparently this last step is the one with the snag as the original pressing plant isn't able to process the order. But this is already dealt with:

-RSG has already found a new pressing plant and performed the order
-the pressing plant is not in dire financial strates and should by all means be able to complete the order
-RSG is now in the position of waiting for the CDs to come to it - so they can be paired with the already produced other items (ship + maybe manuals and inserts if that is not done by the pressing plant) and shipped out. This is literally the last step short of RSG placing the CDs into jewel cases and shipping them to you. AKA this should not be another 6 month wait :)

Does this mean no official games were released in 2011?

Did Fast Striker come out in early 2011? Or maybe it was released in "winter 2010" with people getting it in Jan/Feb of 2011?

Yes, I even posted about how this is a sad year for Dreamcast gamers on our ReviveDC Blog.

It wouldn't have been so bad if Assembler didn't run into complications with Geist Force, cause at least then we could still say a "retail" game was released this year.

It is finally in the process of getting pressed. It is at the place already, we are just waiting on them to get finished.

No telling on how long it will be, but if I had to take a gander I would say about anywhere from mid Jan to February, depending on how long the place takes.

After that is done and out of the way, the rest of the Dreamcast community will finally get their hands on the files.

I actually had a dream about that game last night, like I got to play a demo lol, damn it was a beautiful dream. Dreamcast is still casting dreams it would seem. :D
