Thoughts on E.G.G.?

Post by BrianC »

I just picked up a copy of EGG today (pawnshop find :D ) and am blown away by it so far. The game is so unique and fun! I've never heard much mention of it but I know reviewers bashed it for the poor graphics (amazing art style IMO though). Has anyone on here played it and what did you think of it? Keep in mind I'm only a couple hours in so no spoilers ;)

I think it's an eggcellent game  Sorry............ *hangs head in shame*

Poor graphics ? Never ! It might be retro in appearance but it has a very distinctive, hand drawn art style which I'd say was quite beautiful.

It kinda reminds me of older Zelda titles but..........I'm not sure if I should spoil it for you ! (not sure what point you've reached, two hours in - it's a long time since I played it).

I guess it is, and always was, going to be overlooked by most people so I'm glad you've discovered it. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game.

Thanks man! When I say bad graphics I mean this game could have been made on the SNES so they're a bit underwhelming but the art style is amazing so I know what you mean haha. I've been playing for about 4 hours now and have been terrified the whole time that the game is really short or something since I've never heard anyone talk about it. If anyone is reading this I would highly recommend the game, I get the zelda vibe as well with some metroid thrown in. It actually reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy Adventure even though it doesn't have much in common.

I own it, but I found it pretty underwhelming. I admit I didn't play much more than 30 minutes of it, but witht he very underwhelming graphic style, and the clunky and uncool looking egg robot things, I just couldn't get into it. I loaned it to a friend of mine years ago and he beat it and said it was an amazing game though... so maybe it really picks up after you play 30 minutes in :)

Competely! It was at some pawn shop I used to frequent and had been there for the last five years and I always picked it up and said "Meh". I was at a used game shop the other day that had it marked considerably higher in price than the other games which made me wonder if it was worth anything since this store tends to have a good idea what they are selling. Well anyways, the pawn shop sells me DC games here and there for 5 bucks so I figured why not and picked up MSR while I was at it since I've heard some good things about it. The beginning is very bland and confusing and the game suffers from some seriously broken translation but once you get in to the game and start realizing what it is and how to play it it's a truly amazing game. I'm 6 hours in and it seems like it still has a while to go but I love the concept of 2d isometric gameplay with 3d boss battles. Your character controls exactly the same and has the same moves when in 3d but there is a lot more depth and strategy to the battles and the bosses are done amazingly with each one being completely unique so far. Anyways, if you ever find a copy for a good price and enjoy Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania style games you'll really dig it :D
