Dreamcast item price thread

Post by dark »

Because I have some questions about price, I wanted to start this thread. Basically I think between everyone on the forum sharing their experience and what they've seen items go for in different places, we have a good shot at computing an average price for an item.

Here's what I'm wondering:

What is a good price for Chaos Field?

Personally, it's worth paying no more than $40 IMO! I personally have ignored purchasing this game as it's exclusivity is nowhere near the likes of other great shmups like Zero Gunner 2 and Trizeal for example. This game got an actual release on the GCN in the US (can be nabbed for a fiver) as well as being bundled on "Ultimate Shooting collection" aka "Milestone Shooting Collection" on the Nintendo Wii.

still, thats not the same as owning a hard copy on the DC

from my own pov it always depends on how bad you want something. you might find 60 to 90 euros a lot for this game, but its only gonna go up (methinks of the few euros I spent on my bba & vga box in the day. see where they are now). I always think its better to cough up (in some cases) than to not have the item. when an item has been online for the same price for more than a year, chances are slim its still gonna go down in the future

Very true! i agree, on the topic of games like Chaos Field being released on other platforms, it's very certain that it's price (for DC) may have dropped a bit as a result. Hell, I'm sure with a game like Under Defeat which has been a DC exclusive for years, will likely go down in price a bit now that it's coming out for both 360 and PS3 and in retail form to boot!

^That's what people say, but I haven't seen Rez or Radiant Silvergun drop extensively in price since they were re-released on xbox (DC MVC2 seems to have plummeted in value since the alternate releases though, and I've seen Ikaruga go alternatively for $75 one week, and then $35 the next regardless of condition).

At the end of the day, the only people who are probably still buying retail games for DC over 10 years after its death rather than burning CDRs are collectors of some sort, and to them, the fact that the same game is available for PS2 or GC or XBLive for $5 doesn't matter one bit because they want the DC version to go with their collection, see the spine sticking out of their CD holder, look at the GDRom, and play on their DC which they have a religious obsession with ;) At least that's why I still buy DC retail games even if they are available cheaper on another system.

Thats the price I see it going for most often but it tends to be my least favorite of all the dc shmups :(. I was surprised by how good Trizeal was since I see that game bashed left and right for some reason and that ones hella expensive.

I actually love Chaos Field, probably more than Under Defeat (which is definitely a great game). I know some places have Trizeal for silly prices, but I'm pretty sure it's available on the creator's website and on Japanese amazon.com for the equivalent of $50 or $60 (though shipping and buying from a Japanese website would probably put at least $20 more on top of that price).
