Dreamcast and Speed Racer

Post by dark »

I watched an episode of speed racer last night and I kept thinking that the Mach 5 (the car) was reminiscent of the Dreamcast console and controller.

Image

Image

1) They are both white and red as their main colors (discounting the PAL blue swirl)
2) The controller is pointy like the front of the mach 5
3) The console itself curves and slopes going forward to the controller ports, similar to a sports car's aerodynamic shape going to the hood

Does anyone else agree? Am I going nuts?

Its more of an orange on the DC than red.

Guys, I found another similarity.

Speed Racer's shirt is a deep blue, and so is the sega logo! Also, the Speed Racer car has buttons on the steering wheel that make it do innovative driving enhancing things other cars can't do (like have saws come out the hood, or make the car jump) - and the DC had a VMU and modem, innovative game enhancing technology for the time! the mach 5 has 4 wheels, the DC has 4 controller ports! I could go on and on... (I was serious in my first post though)

Dreamcast : 0-60 frames in 1 second.....that's fast !! It sure packs a lot of punch under that pretty bonnet, though the DC is a hell of a lot noisier than a racing car.

Your damn right its more noisy!
I belive that the DC is actually shaking on the Shenmue intro!
Just like an Am-Car!
PSO Dreamcast: Felix (FOnewearl Lv 115)

Dreamcast Pal (bought brand new last year), BBA, VGA adapter with HDMI converter (720p), Sd card with 32 gb memory and retail PHANTASY STAR ONLINE V2
-Does it get any better for a Dreamcaster:D?

Ok here's another similarity.

-Racer X is a mysterious person, unaffiliated with a major race crew - bleemcast was a mysterious emulator unaffiliated and unendorsed by Sega
-Racer X wears a mysterious mask to hide his identity, bleemcast uses a mysterious copy protection scheme to hide its data!
-Racer X saved Speed Racer's life and taught him some racing skills, bleemcast came out late in the DC's life - thereby increasing interest in DC and lengthening the DC's life - bleemcast also "teaches" the DC some new game processing skills ;)
-Racer X has intimate knowledge of Speed Racer (because he is his brother), the programmers of Bleemcast had intimate knowledge of the dreamcast, programming the emulator in SH4 assembly from the ground up, to squeeze power out of the DC!
-Racer X tends to have intimate knowledge of villains, the programmers of Bleemcast also had intimate knowledge of how the PSX worked!
-Racer X was going to be a normal racer with a race team like Speed and other racers, until he was involved in a terrible accident when he was younger and took off to be a lone wolf - bleemcast was initially going to provide emulation to hundreds of DC games at a time like a normal emulator, but due to the unexpected infeasibility of creating a quality release (what some may regard as an accident!) bleemcast became a set of single game emulated releases
-Racer X enhances Speed's driving skill - bleemcast uses the DC to enhance PSX games (resolution)
-Racer X drives a yellow car, bleemcast is closely associated with a yellow graphic

Don't you guys see this stuff!! :D
