The sheer number of DC games that only allow you to save to the VMU in port 1 socket A is ridiculous. This even impacts some games by well known creators who should have known better, such as Capcom and Infogrames - and it affects games produced years into the DC's life when the game companies doubly should have known better.
I don't want to keep shuffling my VMUs around, it's not necessary. And plugging and unplugging from the controller while the console is on is somehow supposed to be bad for them too... This whole thing is exaccerbated by the fact that the VMU doesn't hold that much space when certain games require a game save that is over 1/4 or even close to 1/2 of the total memory on the VMU! This is just sheer laziness on the part of the game programmers.
That is my DC pet peeve for the moment.

The screen in my arcade stick's VMU that doesn't have backlight, which makes it almost impossible to see if I still have a 100 percent kill rate during a level...
One of the few games that actually uses the VMU screen in-game btw...

Re: My dreamcast pet peeve
The "A" button seems quick to wear out on all my DC controllers, obviously because it's the most commonly used button. I also button mash quite quickly and roughly. I know I can fix it by opening up the controller and reseating the button pad, but that's a pain in the ass to do all the time.
Also, the face buttons make a horrible rattling noise when the vibration pack operates.

Re: My dreamcast pet peeve
back when i had several VMUs this would be an issue for me too. there are a few things you can do, such as get an 8x memory card or keep the VMU in slot A free of space so that you always have room for your current save. you can always move a save file to that card from one of the other ports before starting the game. it sounds like more work than it should be, but i found that i didn't need to dig out old saves to often after beating the game. in fact i ended up deleting most of the saves because i no longer used them.dark wrote:The sheer number of DC games that only allow you to save to the VMU in port 1 socket A is ridiculous. Re: My dreamcast pet peeve
lol, I have plenty of problems with the VMU's, namely their abysmal capacity, but the other one that bugged me was the mini game saves, you couldn't move those around and they took up a truckload of space!! and also the other one for me that perhaps bugged me the most was the need for batteries, and if you removed the tab your batteries would drain constantly, and for me they would run out before I even had a chance to use them, then you get that god awful beeping sound lol

Re: My dreamcast pet peeve
I got quite adept at juggling my vmus around. I'd delete such and such from one card, then move a couple of files over to another......etc etc.....I had it down to a fine art
Still fuckin annoying !! Anyway, nowadays, coz they're so cheap to buy, I just line a few empty ones next to my sofa and unwrap a new one as necessary.
